Perhaps I'm missing something obvious...
Playing the exact same project through 2 different audio interfaces produces a radically different bass sound:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/h1bh8s
The "Tascam" file sounds normal, whereas the "Virus TI" file has some weird kind of harmonics on the bassline.
These were produced using the EXACT same computer and project file, the only difference is switching between audio interfaces.
The audio settings on the TI panel don't give many options, just audio priority, and it certainly doesn't seem like a latency issues.
Any ideas?
Further note: I've noticed this same effect using someone else's Virus TI, as well as mine! The first time was a few months ago with the previous driver version, this current test was used with the most recent update.

that's really weird... not entirely unpleasant but weird. is the bassline coming from the virus itself?
when you heard it on the other virus, did you check it against a different soundcard then?

I'm really suspsect of running the TI as a sound card. My roomate does and I'm not sure if he has that same issue or not, but I'll check it out later this afternoon.

wtf, that is some weird shite.
When exporting w/Virus TI as the interface are you doing a realtime export of Stereo Output?
I use the Virus for my soundcard and even though I've suffered a number of issues (pops/cracks when I forget to export realtime, Virus VST crapping out, bad pops with latency issues, etc) I've never gotten that kind of distortion effect.

Indeed....
And at the moment I seem to be forced to use the Virus as my soundcard if I want to use it at all... it won't work alongside with my old USB sound interface, they seem to have some kind of driver conflict. Reinstalling the Virus doesn't work, the USB driver still can't start if the Tascam is running. Obviously I would just ditch the Virus as the sound interface and use my old one if possible.
If I can't solve this problem I suppose I will just use my little Roland Firewire box that I use with my laptop for live sets, but I'd really rather not, and I'm more interested in the CAUSE or explanation of all this, it's very strange.
I can almost EQ the tone out, it's around the mid 500's, but doing so takes some of the character out of the bassline. More to the point, the general principle of weird unexplained things like this bugs the crap out of me.

Give it a try, you know my bassline plugin chain... I first noticed this effect using Christine's last summer and just assumed it was a weird harmonic in the room or something.
I *swear* it wasn't doing this a few months ago though, so this is just all very strange. All of the recent tracks I've bounced since I finished my album were rendered through the TI and the effect doesn't appear in any of those songs, including the one we worked on, so it seems like it's sporadic. Very strange.

i`m using my Ti as audiointerface regulary and had none of this issues at all.

Yes I bounce in realtime, more to the point, the harmonic is there when playing back normally without bouncing.
This is such an incredibly specific bug that only occurs using the Multiband compressor with the VB1, I doubt it will get noticed anytime soon. I guess I just need to switch to my Firewire controller as a primary interface, which is annoying as the whole point of getting the TI desktop was rackmounting it and having my desk uncluttered with cables and boxes.

All you need is to put the SX3 Multiband compressor on the VB. It's been a sporadic error for me and I'm not sure what caused it to begin with, so having the same project file wouldn't necessarily matter, even if the same problem exists in all TI's, it isn't present all the time, it must get triggered by something.
Good news is this did get cleared up (just before some other MIDI freakouts that solidified my return to the Tascam as primary audio device) by unplugging the TI instead of just setting it to "sleep" mode, maybe there was some glitch running around in the RAM or something.
But yeah I had to run the tascam and virus off totally separate USB busses as to not conflict...
So anyway, if you guys get this or other weird errors that don't get fixed by rebooting or reinstalling, try unplugging instead of just the power button, "sleep" mode doesn't cut it. http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

I think this might be it. Slight latency with TI creating a kind of delay line/slight chorus effect.
can't you just forget the audio integration bs and use it like an a/b/c ? access is not in the sound card business, i wouldn't doubt those synth heads couldn't figure out how to match latency with real audio interface programmers.
you need to send me this synth for a month, i'll fill up the banks and send it back |
