I just got the email from Access about OS 2.7 Public Beta 3, I know 2.7 has been discussed on the forum before but it seemed to be an older unfinished version. This beta 3 seems to be perfectly solid after some extensive testing today.
The atomizer looks fun, but do I really have to run the audio out of my soundcard into the 1/4inch inputs of the Ti, then back out into my soundcard??
Why can't I run channels out of my sequencer over USB into the TI and back out again? I don't have enough i/o for this !

hm i thought it would work like a plugin? if you have to do those connections, then i will definately reconsider the value of the atomizer.

haven't tried it yet, but your suppossed to be able to side-chain the audio in. if your DAW doesn't support side-chaining, then its probably the audio in (can't imagine the latencies involved with that though..)
Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

This will be available in the offficial release. You can run out of one of the three USB outs and into to the input of this Ti. This will all be done in the Common page of Virus Control. Although like Daleks said there might be a bit of latency over the USB.
I am lucky as i will just run ߆right out of my interface output 3&4 into the Ti Audio Ins so i can still have my stereo mix coming out of outs 1&2 then atomizer on its own for anything else i wanna send to it.
Aint tried it yet though as am waiting for a more solid beta or even the official.

Thanks LS, that's really good to know.
I was hoping that for my live show I could use the lower octaves on the keyboard for Atomizer effects and upper octaves as the regular synth so I could play live over the effects. But I think when Atomizer is switched on, that's all the Virus can do.
The Beta3 is solid, but obviously the official release will have all the features and hopefully be fully stable.
I wonder. How did they manage to increase the number of USB channels? |

Tomos, i think its all about marketing, they launch a product using for example 50% of his power capacity, now they are just releasing more stuff so their product stays on the crowd eyes, and the sales continues.
Its a good deal put a better processor and more ROM and RAM for further upgrades and dont use all at the beggining, like a movie wich you just got the best on the end.

bahh, thats completely unfair.
I don't own a virus but the last thing anyone can complain about is access doing things just for marketting.
Most other audio companies would have saved all the stuff that has been added to the TI for a pay for .5 upgrade if not saved it for the next release entirely.
As far as adding the USB channels, its dangerous to look to deep into Access. Clearly some of the DSP programmers have sold their soul to the devil in order to gain their inhuman DSP knowledge...

I agree, I think the guys at Access really enjoy making their products and the great constant updates and extra freebies really make the customer feel good about their purchase. It's not about marketing at all. Clearly the TI wasn't designed as a live sample fx box, but having that feature to play with is impressive.
I can't say the same about Apple - charging $20 for ipod touch users for the email application that wasn't included with the device!

Can't argue with that.
Marketing is everything, with any product. But I do believe they have a great coding team and update cycle.
I have a few products I wish I'd never bought (and have consequently sold) simply because the updates never arrived and the bugs drove me nuts. |

First they needed to make it stable, after 3 years now it seems to be stable so they explore the limits. All for free!!!
Using Virus as an effect is a killer idea.

haha exactly. I think people are just getting spoiled and forgetting how bad hardware synths use to be in this regard.
A good example is the old Korg Oasys PCI....i think it cost $2k when it came out...a year later the big move to XP starts in general, its never updated past win98 and is discontinued update wise by korg, quickly doesn't work as a plugin in any new sequencer version once they update, guitar center starts dumping them for 300 bucks, to make up to the people that wasted $2k on something they can't use korg gives away their inhouse dev kit even though 99.999% of the people who bought the OASYS will never use it...thats it...have a nice a day, sorry if you wasted two thousand bucks, you can always sell it on ebay for 10X less than what you paid... |
