Virus A ultra newbie!!!-fullon bassline questions-

Hi dears
just bought a '97 access A for a very small fee (the audio INs are not working but i don't give a.... simply i don't use it for vocoding and ext.filters)
First impression is:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaAAAAaaaAAAaaaAAAAaaaAAAAaaAAAAAAA!! WTF!!!!

The first key i hit, the windows behind me start vibrating.omg.
I'm now trying to make a full-on bass, (i was using logic's Esm be4)
Starting from A127-START, one oscillator only
It seems to be punchy but very "floating" in enevelopes, so i had to tighten all release env. makin the bass very poor
it seems to be very unstable even if all velocities stay at the same level
The ESM bass stays compact and sturdy, the Access one totally different-
Now i'm asking myself
...wtf...ESM is so fuckin simple and i cannot replicate him on a Access??
What i'm missing?????
Later i'll post some bass examples
PS: is there any isratrance soundbank fr the Access?

Set phase init to anything but not 0, attack of both envelopes
0 decay about 20-30% no sustain, no release.
Filter Res to 0, cutoff to your taste, play around with filterenv.
PS.: There is no way to make a virus sound like the esm....

If you are happy with the basslines you are getting out of ESM, move on in the track and use the Virus for something else.
P.S. the sawtooth on the Virus ain't that great. I had a Virus B as well and it was not my "go-to-synth" for "that" 16th saw bass patch.

bass on virus is a bit tricky until you understood how the machine works ...
what you mean with unstable is phase init value 0 ...
which means no retrigger / free running OSC. http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject |

when i had a virus i was dreaming the saw to sound like esm or a nord 2, if you are after that fat bassline forget the virus . |

sad truth, no matter the money and technology the ESM has better timbre than the virus for psytrance basses
ive started using other synths too lately got bored with it

tHx guys for phase init trick , it's a little more stable, but i can't still achieve a psy -anandashake-ish- bass.

Btw, the esM is my first choice, but,in the midrange, A/B 'em with pro tracks it lacks on mids makin me pulling too out in da mix, or worst open the filter too much and sounds crappy.
i've tryied a parallel compression with
Massey Tape Head(great freeware) but it distorts,no makin punch
PS:Listening to disco hooligans's work in my car since 2 weeks ago
It makes me more consciousness that can get fuckin good results with a mac and a pair of good ears, really stimulating
more time in front of logic, less time about gears wanking now ehehe

i listened to the esm sample , try to add a bit more env on the filter and shorter decay time on it , dont like your kick , it distort, sound lofi |

glad you like it mate...there is no special exotic plug in, no Rbass, no M/S encoders  (sorry about the joke, but they seem to be in fashion these days), just a simple ESM/ES1 into Logic's EQ, Logic's Compressor.
the basslines on the new album sound even better, same simple synth and signal chain, just spending more time understanding how I should go about EQing and mixing things better.

Its always nice to have a vision and a will to make something that you like, for example if you hear a track and really like the bass and want to make something the same... nothing wrong with that... as long as you experiment your self and dont ask anyone for presets/patches
so you experiment and experiment, you might not be able to copy but the most important is that you try and that you tweak and want to learn more...
a track is more than a baseline so sometimes you got to cut your self some slack...
My advice is to keep tweaking till you find something that you like to some extent...
Vst i recommend for bass
Vb1
(lots of processing needed, at least for my likings)
Muon Tau
(not much processing needed in my opinion)
V-station(not much processing needed here aswell)
Minimoog( great for progressive but also fullon)
Alien 303( good for many kinds of basses, though mine is a bit buggy)
TAL-Elek7ro (kudos to PoM, it works nice)
Z3TA+(sweet one for pretty clean and rolling fullon basses)
i never had the chance to try Trillogy and ESM and ES1 but from what iv heard they seem to be very nice, especially Esm and Es1..
to add you should try Bazzism 2 and psykick 4 and tweak the kick and bass to eachother to get a good sound...its a simple and good way to match the kick and bass...
things to try also is, shorten vs lengthen the bass notes..
Eq out some lowend and some highend..
about your virus.. well i guess its good for many things and if you tweak you might get a nice bass.. im sure you will find good use of it.. Tweak tweak tweak.. thats the magic word
