Hey Boris,

I think I fail to understand what u say...

I've got 12ms latency which I fix the way I explained.. I play that as a playback and it sounds excellent and so I record that to DAT and it sounds completely syncronized.. Where is the problem??

PS If u meant that while u work realtime it doesn't make up the latency then something is wrong with your settings, cuz I don't have such a problem.. Even when I 'kill' the CPU it still sits quite nicely - till the PC goes BANG@#$ and there is no more cubase and I have to start the damn machine again.. ;-)

Ok - first of all, a good ASIO card is not enough.
It only gives you the POSIBILITY to work with low latency.
When you go down to 1ms, you use a very small buffer, which the cpu has to fill up very quickly and thus it works harder.
Second - midi to audio helps if you have midi to audio problems.
When using soft synths the problem is audio to audio.
Cubase moves the audio tracks back in time to play them correctly,
but this can't be done to real time audio which is being produced by soft synths UNLESS the midi notes are not sent in real time,
but instead they are played back. This way the notes can be moved too to compensate. But if you play real time, any latency your card produces CANT be fixed in real time. Did I make myself clear?

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid sandwich ;-)

I was talking about midi to audio whilst u were talking about softsynth to audio...

OK that's a problem.. when I decide to use soft synth ( it doesn't happen much ) I try to dump it as fast as I can to audio and work on it from there.. But there is a timing problem - which makes things more complicated.

Second way of getting out of trouble is to buy a synth or two..;-)

The conclusion from our discussion was that
Yuli's way will not fix Soft-Synth Latency.
You need a low - latency sound card.

Yeah, but you should check it out...
I mean, today audio cards don't cost that much,
and the card is a long-term investment because it's the core of your studio...

I don't know why no one has suggested changing your settings to get better latency ?!?!?!?

--> you go to audio setting -->asio multimedia --> advanced...  or something like that ;)    then... you lower the _amount_ of buffers and/or the _size_ of buffers, but each time you do this, you need to test it to see if you lose the sync too often (once is too often according to cubase).... then click ok/ok and see what your new wonderful lower latency is !!!! tada !!  ;)

keep fooling with the settings until you get the most stable with lowest latency settings..

have fun.

You can only go as low as your card lets you, that's why.
My pulsar can only go down to 13ms, for example, no matter what buffers I use.
