Does anyone have a suggestion for a plugin (or a patch for a plugin) that does a good job emulating a violin sound. I know there are some string based synths out there, so if someone has used those and could recommend one that would be nice. Something with specific controls that a violin player would use would be ideal.
A plugin that covers orchestral sounds (strings, voices, percussion) would be nice as well if anyone knows a good one.

theres a company called East West that does a lot of sample libraries/plugins for classical type instruments...I swear there was a free version going around that was pretty complete, but for the life of me I can't find it now.

Yeah I don't want sample patches, I want to have something I can control similar to playing a real violin (which is why I said emulation).
I've seen a few, just wondering if anyone has experience with any and can give a recommendation.

don't know any
there's some cheap electric violins like Hora 4/4 BK, bellow $200
you can record it just like an electric guitar... which is amazing.

I've never found anything that specifically emulates a violin or viola... I've been kinda looking for one of those too. As a person who used to play this particular type of instrument, I don't think a cheap $200 one will make the same rich tones as a properly crafted violin would. If you're more concerned about the sound, the I'd use well recorded samples...
