I as a incurable vinyl junkie, am very saddened by teh fact that 12" as a medium seems to be on a downward slope.
this seems to be especially true in the psy scene, where almost everyone seems to "spin" cd:s
IMO cdjaying sucks, it has nothing to do with the original art form... |

Well, I can reverse vinyls on a technics 1200 as well ( a bit tricky but it works).
I'm a Vinyl juskie as well, allthoug i also spin progressive and not full on.
but the problem is again financial. CD's are easier to press, ship and sell then vinyl.
About the vestax cutter. the vinyls you get from it are only good for about 100 plays and you need to change the head every 50-70 cuts. too much money for me at the moment.

true.
I guess the problem is purely financial...
cdrs cost nothing when compared to 12" singles
But atleast here in finland vinyl lp`s price is up to par with their cd counterparts.
I can`t see the difference of playing full-on/minimal\prog as in playing cd`s or vinyls?
And you can play lots of different material (breaks, etc.) in a psy set.
cd`s I only use for gimmicks, like starting a set with the first minute of an acapella version
of a finnish rock song:D

I liked the feel and specialy the look of vinyl's. You opened the album for the first time, great pictures on both sides lot's of information, a real physical thing.
But I guess there will be no return to vinyl's anymore.

sure there will be a return... just don't expect the pencil pushers and book balancers to be doing it. |

i play both mediums, but more and more i prefer to use cdjs. they are lighter, cheaper, smaller, more portable, more durable, can hold more music, and sound the same after being played 100 times as they do the first time. don't get me wrong, i love my vinyl and would never want to part with my turntables... but there is SOOOO much more music available on cd than there is for turntable enthusiasts. i love the way vinyl feels and the way it smells when you take it out of the sleeve for the first time, but after a while it just doens't sound quite the same (even when you take the best care of them you will still get some surface noise after a while). also, it doesn't take a whole lot to make a vinyl record start skipping.. especially outside. vinyl does pretty well inside a club, but the last time i played records @ a mountain party the moths and bugs kept buzzing around the target light and landing on the records!
