hey time traveller.. this is not imo mate, this is fact. people release fewer and fewer vinyls these days.. for the simple reason they don't sell well in this scene maybe you should become prog house dj or smthing.. then you have all the vinyl you could possibly want           >>love will tear us apart...<<

woah harsh words man, vinyl goooooooddddd, its a shame that its going because it hads its benefits as well, check the current oztrance board for a good discussion about the merits of vinyl vs CDs

http://www.oztrance.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi
(you may hav to register but the thread is quite good, with a certain degree of technical discussion and not just opinions which i found pretty interesting)

for me vinyl is better than CD and i wish it wasn't going down the pan, CDs have their advantages and this is what i buy most but then if record labels released on vinyl what they release on CD then i would probably go with the vinyl

(and yes i accept the arguments for convenience and whatnot)

long live the vinyl...........think it is very sad that the slabs are disappearing from the trance scene but understand it as well....the anteater can vouch for this....

when are all the record labels going to be cd labels - dragonfly compact discs?           live life; be free

I think Psy-trance is very interesting as it is becoming more like rock (in its broadest sense) in the way that it is structured and marketed than most other forms of dance music.

One of the most obvious ways is the growth of "name" acts that are album based rather than the traditional "faceless producer knocking off loads of 12"s under different names" that is more common in other parts of dance music.

I think that this has helped psy trance grow in parts of the world that did not necessarily have a dance culture and were more used to rock.

One of the negative sides of this (if you like vinyl) is that its become almost universal for psy-trance DJs to play on CD decks (it must be the only dance scene where vinyl DJs have to call to ensure there will be some technics there before they turn up) - so record companies are putting less and less stuff out on vinyl.

However there is a lot of crossover and I know hard trance and techno Djs that will play the odd psy-trance tune in their set - so don't think vinyl (well in the UK anyway) will die just yet.

I loved vinyl, it was my first Love...

Now i love CDs! .... .... I'm such a tart !!!

I remember the days without cd-decks. It was all Dats & vinyl (ahhh, nostalgia)...

Imo, Dj'ing with Cd's is much better than with Vinyl. No scratches, fluff, wobbly needles, etc...

With much listening experience, i think vinyl quality = mp3 quality. ie. Not good enough.

Vinyl is great if you want to scratch or make with hip-hop tricks. Also hard-house or tecko dj's think its great becasue mixing vinyl looks flash/sexy and the difference in sound quality is not that noticable since the sound tends to be quite crude (imho, production is weak compared to today's psy-trance...).

I think it boils down to how particular you are to "quality" of sound / production. For me, i like to hear the *master* version!!!

Even so....

Anyone have Astral Projection's 1st ablum on LP vinyl (TIP Records) ?

Although I think its fair to say that a lot of production on psy-trance is better than on equivalent hard trance or techno tunes, you've missed a vital point... most psy-trance Djs don't really mix - now whether thats a good or bad thing is a subject for another thread - but its does affect the technical aspect of playing tunes...

nowadays due to the increase of cdjs, more and more psytrance djs are starting to beat mix,[as its so easy with the cdjs].but still the techno and hard trance djs seem to do a lot more on the decks,ie cutting scratching etc.
