Surprised that no one have made a review of this one yet. Oh well, here it goes:

After Vibraspheres marvelous "Lime Structure" album, a lot of people (including me) where excited when the double LP "Lime Remixes" was announced. And after a couple of months delay it's finally here: one of the most anticipated vinyls this year.

Tracklist:

A. Vibrasphere - Newport (Son Kite Remix)
B. Vibrasphere - Newport (Vibrasphere Remix)
C. Vibrasphere - Purple Floating (Cosma Remix)
D. Vibrasphere - Purple Floating (Tarek Mansur Remix)

A.) First up is Son Kites version of "Newport" - one of the standout tracks from the album, and also featured on the "Digital Emission" compilation last year. This remix was by the way made available for download at the MPDQX website about a month ago, as a teaser for this release.

Although it's not the best remix Son Kite have made, it's still a high quality track. More groovy and not as floating as the original, and definatly with the Son Kite touch. The remix includes some new eastern sounds, and the melody starting at 5:12 is excellent.

B.) Vibraspheres own remix is adds some drum-percussion to the track. In my opinion it gives it a more housy feel, but still the amazing melodies from the original is maintained throughout the track. I would personally say that this one would fit more into a club than the original (and that's not necessarily a bad thing).

C.) The Cosma remix of "Purple Floating" is my personal highlight of this release - from the first second you're drawn into the track. Cosma had a thing with intros (take for instance "The Time Has Come" and the remix of Son Kite's "Out Of Range") and this one is also a great opener for a set. The style is his typically blend of Full On and progressive, and pure joy from start to finish.

D.) The only thing I've ever heard from Tarek Mansur is "Showtime" from "Digital Emission". A dark, aggressive and groovy track that, unfortunatly, seems to lead nowhere. But this remix of "Purple Floating" is much better. I like the mixture between the uplifting sounds from Vibrasphere and his style.

Although a fine track, it sorta fades compared to Cosma's remix - a bit sad, as it's well done. I'll have my eyes open from more releases from Tarek Mansur in the future though.

Conclusion:

As mentioned before, Cosma's remix of "Purple Floating" is the highlight of this release, but overall this is something I would recommend to anyone. All tracks are of high quality (as you can expect from MPDQX/Digital Structures), and definatly with some great dancefloor material.

Recommended!

Yep, you're right - my mistake there.

Still, it's a fantastic track           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I've listened only to the Cosma remix. The part around 3 minutes in the track, is just 'wave your hands in the air' all out cheesy on a clubtrance level. If the bassline would have been different and it would be a little bit fluffier, no one would mistake this for anything but clubtrance.

I hope the rest of the remixes try to do something less cheesy.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
