Okay, I just want to sound off on something I've been seeing here in this forum that is really troublesome to me, so pardon my tone.
I've seen alot of people using "gay" or "fag " or "faggot" in derogatory terms.
As a straight ally and someone with more than a few Gay/Bi friends, some of whom are very involved in the psytrance community, I am really angry that people choose to bring such hatred into something that is supposed to be about community, respect, friendship and a sense of transcending mundane bullshit.
Before you say "it's just a word"-one of my best friends was beaten to death by members of his fraternity because they thought he was a "faggot" who was going to "come on" to them, despite the fact that he was'nt out or overt about his sexuality and it only became an issue after one of his frat brothers went and outed him to the two men who beat him. He was found in a ditch near the campus where he had presumably strayed off, and he died, according to the coroner's report, of a brain injury sustained in the beating.
I don't care what your politics are, but please don't bring this into the psy scene. |

To be honest, I'm guessing that people dont use terms like 'fag', 'gay' or whatever to hurt gay people, its just a term like 'idiot', 'dumb ass, 'bitch' or whatever, and it has nothing specifiec with the trance scene.

im sorry to hear about your friend
and im sorry to say it but this scene is not this big we all love each other anymore..
and yes me and my friends have gotten into fight at parties/festivals due to people haveing a problem with us being gay or whatever you wanna call it 
and yes i do get affendt sometimes when people use the words in a negativ way but not if its people that i know or know that its only for fun and not bad feelings

Sounds horrible. In what country does such thing still take place? Anyways I guess I use the word "gay" quite much and no I will not stop using it. If you see it as an offence it's your problem. I sure as hell don't use it in a hatefull/whatever way.

im pretty sure that people use the word gay here in its "lame" connotation.... and not to offend others. i have found some comments like what you are describing and deleted them whenever i saw them. please help us folks and report topics to the moderators if they happen not to catch this kind of stuff.... it really has no place here in the context Pax is describing.
i do however agree somewhat with traveller - connotation and denotation are different and often the connotation is so common that it would be silly to dis-allow it. i think anything can be said as long as its in the right context.
