Zulu Lounge was born as a restaurant suggesting mediterranean and mexican food in San Antonio, Ibiza. Xavier Fux who was already a very active guy especially in South America is taking care of the musical background there while the lucky fews are enjoying nice meals in a cool location. Chill Out, Deep House and World Beats are his ingredients. He is also responsible of the releases set up by Zulu Lounge. It started with the much appreciated "Chill Out Sessions" and "Mar Y Tierra" is now the fifth release of the label. The artwork is a nice digipack built up in tryptique with some decent graphic layout and very beautiful photos.

The compilation opens with the duo formed with Russel 'Abakus' Davies and Humphrey 'Humito' Bacchus who deliver something that will seduce the Abakus amateurs, as his influence is quite present. Much softer stuff than "Numbers" in example (VA - Mountain High - Candyflip). Then follows the Vatos Locos trio who already pleased me so much with their remix of "Tiger MoOn" (VA - Wider Horizons - L.S.D.), delivering a smooth piece of psydub, with some 'Sphongle' influences. The third track is from the NZ artist Max Maxwell and combines piano, subtle rhythmics, filtered ethic chants with whale sounds.. For a very gentle moment. '3rd Ear' follows (T4), being a 'Vatos Locos' side-project (Doof + Celli), bringing something slightly more groovey. This dubbed track is very exciting with an impressive built up of the rhythmics and the overall flow plus some super choices of sounds (from the lighests to some more twisted ones). "Cafe del Campo" (T5), suggested by Celli alone as 'Earthling' stays in this little more groovey mood, still with this "easy easy" feeling. Then, 'Solid World', let's say "resident" in the Macao Café serie (Etnica.net) comes with some nice flutes distilled in a little bit softer ambience. After that we have 'Vatos Locos' again with a track titled "Freestyle" that illustrates rather good the ambiance. Dubby vibration that leaves full space for the background elements to express themselves and let them go in many directions. There's a 'rough' feeling springing out, which makes this one quite sympatic. Now we have the boss (T8).. Xavier looks like to like phat bass and shows it to us.. He makes it contrast with an atmospheric background, and some very light dubbed elements including very filtered spoken words. Paul 'Phully' Sweetman (T9) is another NZ artist, well known in his country, suggests us some more Trip-Hop vibrations including here also some whale sounds.. The next track (T10) is from a duo who released a tech-house EP on the spanish House Park label, and here is having fun experiencing dubbed vibrations. The bassline is quite classic, so is the overall built-up, but the result is very pleasant, and the chant in it is worked in a great way. I say that's a nice try ! The closing track of the comp (T11) will stay in the same mood.. being a piece of electronic reggae dub suggested by another team from New Zealand.. This track was a limited vinyl release available only in New Zealand, and re-released later by the german Best Seven Records (Sonar Kollektiv).. It's story is nice as somebody visiting their office gave the label heads this record to check out.. and bim bam boom yalla.. The guys were totally right as this song is just beautiful.. Superb ending for this compilation.

Voilà voilà.. Maybe this review is a little bit late but hey, this is not fashioned music that I'll have forgotten within a few months.. So better late than never, no ? This release is filled with positive things, and this label definitaly deserves more attention.. It was about time, after fifth releases, for it to be more widely available (which is not the case for the previous releases..) and I can easily recommend this one to all chillers here around, especially the Liquid Sound Design amateurs..

I enjoyed a lot but really a lot the tracks 4, 10 and 11 but the whole is good.

Thanks for reading !
