I think some are great, but the vast majority of what I’ve heard are quite awful.

You talk about creativity, but in most cases it’s actually quite the opposite – very boring, uninspiring remixes, and in the case of full on remixes, it’s mostly the original, simply with the remixers standard bassline on top. Sadly it’s becoming a trend, and while it’s fun once in a while, it just gets lame when it’s overused.

One of my favourite remixes of a non-trance track is Slide and Tim Healeys “Wicked Behaviour”. A remix of Chris Isaacs beautiful “Wicked Game” from the movie “Wild At Heart”.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I completely agree with you Profane !

Well, doing remixes the rmxers should add value to that track!

Is not about taking the basic theme or a melody from a track, built it on a beat and that's all, we did a RMX !!!

I have the feeling that who wants to do a rmx, first must understand why he wants to do it! Does he thinks that can improve more quality? Better sequensing? New sounds? Or he just wants to rmx a famous track so he can be the New trance "POP STAR" ?

Well, i hope that the new "producers" should think more in this topic! I have the impression that the new "producers" are not creative enough!
They don't want to experiment and they just want to become "POPSTARS"!

But in this way the music that they do becomes naked and at the end instead of being "POPSTARS" they become "PORNSTARS" !!!

So, please. do NOT rip off the anthems !

Built your own personality as Mr. S.Posford (Hallucinogen) did, as Mr M.Maichel (X-Dream) did . . . to not mention others! Those PRODUCERS have created their OWN personality!
Perhaps you like their music, perhaps not! But in any case they invented their own SOUND!

Respect to everyone !

I join PrOfane and Dot Kite on that one

Another reason why I'm generally not into non-trance trance rmx is, that you get memories comeing up, or even start singing along in your mind and I don't like that when being on the dancefloor, disturbes the trance state

There is a thing called dancefloor value.
They changed the song/track into psytrance. Anything wrong with that?

for me there´s nothing more boring than those uninspired standard fullon beats mixed with ministry/metallica/nirvana etc.
psychedelic is about mind altering sound structure that takes you on a trip without stoopid consumption of substances.
i totally agree with pointy that reminders don´t fit well when you want to have a psychedelic experience.
futhermore i think that there´re really interesting musical genres to be inspired from (breakbeatz/ asian breakz/ gothic/ classical music) - no need to reuse overused disco charthits that you can hear on every boring disco night...

Hehehe... you people obviously have never heard good remixes by Junkie XL, Markus Schulz, Sander Kleinenberg, James Holden, Satoshi Tomiie, Gabriel & Dresden etc.

If you would, then you would know sometimes pop/rock songs can be turned into great trance songs.

Check out:

Dave Gahan - Dirty Sticky Floors (Junkie XL Vocal Mix)
Jewel - Stand (Markus Schulz Club Mix)
Delerium - After All (Satoshi Tomiie Mix)
Annie Lennox - Wonderful (Sander Kleinenberg's Vocal Mix)
Sarah McLachlan - Fallen (Gabriel & Dresden's Antigravity Mix)

Check out these mixes and then say again they shouldn't mix pop/rock with trance...

to add to acidhive... check out "CPU's - A Beach In Japan", the rmx to Alphaville - Big in Japan. it is a masterpiece progressive track with hints of the original and totally ripping lines in it.

Cut the crap will ya?
Disgusting? Then don't listen to it.
They took a song and made it dancable for the psytrance dancefloor. What's wrong with that? If you want some ground breaking remixes go listen to ott's in dub.
This are remixes designed to make people move and just HAVE FUN!

I guess the topic was about PSYtrance, not regular trance           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Of course again a matter of taste and I can even agree, that there are some cool sounding non-trance trance rmx and that they can be fun.

But they are not actually good for getting into trance, because, as I said earlier, they usually activate memory-processes, which interupt the "repetative cognitive loop", that is nescessary to get into trance.

I'd say: Listen to these rmx at home, but don't play them on the dancefloor.

What do often bore me are the seeds of the remixes themselves...

Remixing Prodigy once.. oakay.. but up to 5 times ? This is becoming pathetic..

Remixing Benny Bennassi.. is.. ehm.. just.. just stupid.

Remixing Dire Straights.. humm how original..

Remixing Nirvana... same same..

Remixing Metallica... what a culture dude !

Remixing an indus/goth song one have probably never heard before... NOW that becomes interesting ! NOW this is something telling me more about the guys who did the remix (in this case Dark Soho).. NOW I'm happy to have the feeling of having improved a tiny little bit in my musical explorations..

The seEd is the key..           .
