This is the 6th release of Oxygen Records. My first contact with them was their last release, the Setherian album, which was very refreshing to me and is still recieving good reviews from top reviewers in this forum. This positive contact made me stay tuned for more Oxygen stuff, I checked the samples of this album at their page, liked it and even got an interview with Sound Field ( http://www.fullonline.net/interviews ).

Sound Field is a project by Andy Yakovlev and Liron Atia. Unfortunately Liron suffered an snowboarding accident, and Andy had to finish the album alone. But Liron is still credited for 4 tracks here, 4 other tracks were made by Andy alone and the last track is a collaboration with Lars Knudsen.
Andy has been producing electronic music for a long time, but it was only a couple of years ago that he started releasing his tracks. Now he has four different psy-related projects (ProSect, Sonify, Sound Field and ICO).

Mastering of this release was made by Schwa at ORM studio - Prague.
The artcover was made by Jarin.
Check the cover:
http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?oxy1cd006_b.jpg:CDs/oxy/oxy1cd006.html:;

Inside the booklet you'll find a cool pic of Andy sleeping. There is also some nice interesting words inside the booklet, like a special thanking to our most well-known psy celebrity:

"...and of course to the new star in our small (and ironic) scene: DJ MegaRaver!"

And a positive educative message:

"Copy kill OUR music
Download with intelligence"

The music begins sending us back to the past, when the psychedelic vibes were of paramount importance in the music. Every time I listen to this Psychedelic Revival (T1) it stamps a smile on my face, because its oldshool psychedelic aspects contrasting with the up-to-date progressive approach makes me feel like it is possible to have the best from both worlds. The sample is also catches me: "My music, it started without me".

The second track, Technological Terror (T2), relies more on an hypnotic atmosphere with a drop of sadness that only reaches the surface few times. Behind this darkpsy track name (joke) a very emotional track is hiding, this is beautiful and recommended.

Midi Tales (T3) is a little more aggressive, good synth usage on top of a pounding beat. Some nice breaks and surprising ending, because to me it sounds like the end happens after the end.

Since it's the faster track in the album, at first I thought Return to the Field (T4) was a more full on track, but the track name misleads me. Weirdly enough this sounds to me very tech-trance influenced, I don't know if it is the elements themselves or the way they're employed. Interesting tune.

And now we have a rare gem, Crossbreed (T5) is the unquestionable proof that Andy has talent and good taste. No build ups, just relentless hypnotic beats and on top of them a symphony of elements, each one at the right time. Perfect, no more words.

Dub Vibration (T6) begins with real dub vibes, no beats, deep bass lines and elements melting into each other, I feel like I'm a huge chill space at some obscure festival, just relaxing and trippy. Five minutes later "BOOM!", a beat arrives at 120 bpm making me wake up and dance. Wow, he spares no effort to make this work, like they say: "what goes up must come down", so I lay down again, just waiting the next track.

There's no doubt that this 7th track is a progressive trance track, the soft melodies, the groovy bass lines and the 130 bpm made this clear. However, I feel a weird thing while listening to this music that reminds me of something else. Let's check the track name again: Funk Science (Southern rmx), uhmm... I don't think it's science or southern. Yes, it's funk!! What a funky track!

Did we have something epic up to now? No? That's perfect because "Second Step above the Sun" (T8) is one of those epic tracks, and taking into consideration the diversity of this album it's clear that there's no room for repeating the same thing twice in here. So this is our epic track... You know, that track with a special journey inside it, the one that plays with your mind gently, that picks you at some place and leaves you somewhere else. Worth mentioning that this track already has a released remix.

Closing this great debut is a collaboration with Lars Knudsen named Lifted Higher (T9). It's a beautiful progressive tune at 130 bpm, rich in atmosphere and little details, just a discrete build up with a nice sample and we're flying again. Happy ending.

I must say this Sound Field debut completely blows me away, and I don't say this for many albums out there. It contains such diversity and flow, the tracks are long and well structured, most of them developing until reaching its full potential. The style is continuous, not relying on breaks and build ups, providing a smooth flow for home listening. I think half of the album could be released through, for example, Tribal Vision or Iboga, so this album places Oxygen Records together with the best out there.

Recommendation: This release features 9 previously unreleased tracks, which means almost 80 minutes of brand new music. In spite of its broad bpm range, from 120 to 140, it contains mostly diversified progressive psytrance which should be checked by anyone into this style. Its continuous and smooth flow makes it excellent for home listening, but I'm sure it only unleashes its full potential on the dance floor. This Sound Field debut is really worth checking.

very strong one in proggy style here. intelligent and light. i liked midi tales (very nice psy-kick) and second step above the sun (plesant atmosphere) most of all. but psychedelic revival, technological terror and lifted higher are also very good and im sure will be essential to wide range of progressive dancefloors. congratulations andy & liron!!! very nice one

Hi All !

Oxygen Records sixth release is the debut album of Sound Field project - Audio Surfin. Andy Yakovlev and Liron Atia are the souls behind this project, but most of it wrote by Andy, because unxpected accident of him partner . So far, each release from this sunny label was a blast and thats why I'm always keep my eyes on their new releases. The tempo range is 130-140 (with one down temop track), but there is no chance you could imagine the style of the music, because there is no specific definition for this kind of music.

1. Psychedelic Revival
The first psychedelic experience in this album is "Psychedelic Revival" tune. The begining of this track is sound weird a bit with special touch of old-school style and the super groovy loop is "draw" a clear picture - modern beats with old vibes. The music is alive, always developing to new directions and force the listener to follow it insistencely. The lovely symphony on the middle is also a sign for something not regular is happen right near our ears.

2. Technological Terror
Andy's advanced sense of humor is the reason for this ironic name I think. The track it self is deep and shady with mysterious atmosphere and emotional playings rolling again and again. I guess that Andy is trying to build a personal mood for this album and "Technological Terror" is the move for it. This track is suitable for the scary night time...

3. Midi Tales
The sun is shining and the groove is take control all around...the smiles are everywhere . The vocals combined with the great progressive beat is the factor for successful dance product. The listener is still not going crazy diging for this track but the body is start shaking as it should be. There are some sophisticated games with the baseline and the melodies, and all this together create a wonderful pack of enjoyment.

4. Return to the Field
The tempo is almost getting to the full on range (140 BPM), and thats a diserve reason to prepare the legs for massive diging. I feel like all the positive energies is leave my body and fly in the air. A funky baseline is going together with colorful playings. "Return to the Field" is a delightful track full with happy melodies and amazing atmosphere. Well done boys.

5. CrossBreed
The highlight moment on this cd is here. I'm still have difficulty to belive this rare sounds came out from Israeli studio. There is not a fine description to describe what this guys did here, but I can promise one thing - the trip is going to be fascinating and exciting. Inimitable stuff.

6. Dub Vibration
When you arrive to the top of the moountain, the only way is down for this spot and thats exactly what is going on now. The tempo is very low (120 BPM) and this is the most appropriate thing for the body & the brain after track numer five. The bodi is moving slowly and the ears are enjoy from pleasant sounds from Andy & Liron soul. Thanks !

7. Funk Science (Southern Mix)
Welcome to Sound Field's funky concert. This what I call "sexy" kick and rare flow, which let me respond it on very strange dance . The dance floor is still far from this track, but those beautiful nine minutes are the most requested thing now. The brake on 04:45 is one of the most smiley loops I've ever heard. Keep it up and never stop.

8. Second Step Above The Sun
If you loof for a reason to understand what is so speical on "Audio Surfin" album, so track number 8 is the proof for it. Sometime I wonder what is the music influence on the listener, and while I hear the "Second Step Above The Sun" track I found the answer - the journey with the music ! The soft melodies with the chilly baseline are the promising factors for enjoyable journey to the galaxy.

9. Lifted Higher
Andy is unite forces with Lars Knudsen and "Lifted Higher" is the result. This track is simply a pure art, everything is located on the right place and somwhow it's catch my brain and walk with it hand by hand to the end of this one of a kind trip .

To sum it up without saying too much - GET IT FAST !!!

Sound Field - Audio Surfin' (Oxygen Records)

Sound Field is Andy Yakovlev and Liron Atia. Andy also has a few solo projects, one being the reknown'd Prosect, who's debut album can be expected on Tribal Vision Records shortly and Liron whom helped Andy make the Sound Field album in part, before having a terrible accident almost paralyzing his entire body. Andy was forced to work extra hard and even make a few of the tracks by himself to complete this lovely tale. Oxygen Records offers in there 6th release, one of our scene's spotlight artists, whom, if you ask me, made a name for oxygen records since day one, with there release titled "Ocean in Motion". This time around, they offer nine brand new tracks that takes a different approache from the usual Oxygen Records sound. This one being more melodic as a whole and really refreshing.

The album kickstarts with a very dramatic intro, lasting for almost the first minute and a half of the track. I can give the guys originality bonues for this one. It totally fucks your mind and really gets you psyched for the music before us. Psychedelic Revival has a nice full-onish style bassline and great percs. When the lead melody starts up, we get the impression that the sun just set and the moon is rising slowly. The melody consists basically of an echo'd sample that pretty much repeates itself for a big part of the first half of the song. As things move forward, the bassline changes and becomes slightly more electrified and the samples get a little glitchy'er than usual, working well with the opening intro. I really like the evolution of this one. there are lots of up's and down's. Near the end, we can really feel the Yakovlev touch. A very nice track as a whole.

Technological Terror starts off more minimal, almost bringing Sensient to mind (before the melody starts that is). Well, it is kind of minimal from what we are use to from this duo and the melodies really take control of the track rather than a funky bassline for instance. This track is very trance releated and almost epic at times it seems but it doesn't qualify as cheeze or anything displeasant. On the contrairy even, the track is rather emotional yet not over dramatic. This one is definatly not the track that stands out the most because of its more "home listening" appeal but the progression and structure find a way to make it interesting to the ear.

After yet another interesting intro, Midi Tales tunes up the agression meter a littlebit, despit its slightly slower bpm count in comparison to the previous track. I really like the percussions in this one, complimenting the groovyness factor of the track. As it moves forward, we get a little more into the twisted psychedelic sounds as it almost reaches a full-on sounding lead. To my ears, it is a little unpleasent, but it doesn't last too long and then the more progressive part of the song comes back out from the shadow's of the harder sounds. All in all, its a very nice track.

Ahhhh, lets take a little break now and absorb this great intro. Its a good thing too, because my virgin ears were starting to get a little beatup. Return to the Field calms things down and brings back the sunshine. At first, i would have said this was a remix from Son Kite or Tegma, as those are the artists that come to mind when hearing this one play out. This one is pure buildup.. the whole track just keeps getting harder and harder until it explodes. Definatly a nice listen on the way home from a full-on party.

Crossbreed is our next one here with a very ironic name considering the sounds we find inside this one. This one is BY FAR the nicest piece of music on the album. Wow, i was really impressed on where this one ends up by the end of it. At first it sounds simular to Technological Terro, but as things heaten up it moves you into a new dimension. If Tiesto played this kind of trance music i would start paying the ridiculusly expensive ticket prices to see him !! Everything is just right on in this one.. The bassline, the samples, the percs and of course the melodies that make this track what it is. Hearing this one for the first time made me thing twice about who's album i was listening too. Its very different from the rest on this album and really stands out. Some might find this one a little too epic for there tastes but i find it just right. Great job.

Well, while we are looking for diversity on this album, we stumble apon our next track titled Dub Vibration, and as you can guess, the title is symbolic to the track itself. This one will definatly be a good intro in on of my editions of the Jester's Court on techno.fm... I can start to complain about why this track is in the peak of this album but that wouldn't really make mush sense since the track has its good points. Near the end, it turns into a 4x4 beat with rasta like samples. Not really my cup of tea and not in the right place if you ask me.

Next up is a remix from VIbrasphere.. no wait, its not by Vibrasphere.. but it would have fit perfectly on there "Lime Structures" album. Now that you have an idea of how this one sounds, go fetch your CD player and loop this one for a while. Things just got alot more progressive as this track is the turning point in this album. Its alot slower that the first group of tracks and much more monotoned. The layering of this one is also something worth mentionning despit that it never really "takes off"...

Second Step Around the Sun to me means either two things to me, 1:that they want a second chance after that last one or 2: that they venture into the more melodic world once again. I think probably both points are accurate to a certain extent, as it is definatly better than the last track and the little tribal touch adds alot to it. Although this one n'either really takes off, the sound is still very mind controlling.

Lifted higher is in collaboration with Lars Knudsen. Although i am unfamiliar with that name, i can guess it has something to do with the guys from Sonic Cube maybe or is it Greed? I has a darker kick to it and low toned bassline englobed by very nice melodies and soft sounds. Its a great track to close this album up as it really "puts you to sleep", but not in a boring way. It sooths the mind and relaxes your thoughts.. i would highly recomend this one right before bed, as you fall asleep with a huge smile on your face.

In Conclusion, this one is not too be taken lightly for those prog lovers. The BPM variety also makes this one very usful for Dj's who play a few different styles. I would have to admit though, that this one is more of a
"sit down" album rather than a dancefloor killer. The high presence of melodies attack more your brain than your legs. I have to congradulate these two guys for coming through with this one despit the unfortunate luck they had in the early stages.

Great work guys and thanks to Oxygen for releasing such a sweet album. This one definatly stands high beside Spectra's album in the O2 roaster.

I normally dont post my complete reviews in english, this time I make an exception however, to give labels an impression of what my reviews are like.
They are written for another site, electrobeat.dk, which focusses on electronic music in general, but which has mostly trance users.
There are more newbies to the music on our site, therefore the focus is on the whole of the release, instead of a track by track walkthrough.

Sound Field – Audio Surfin’ (Oxygen Records, 2007)
Andy Yakovlev(Prosect, Sonify & ICO) teams up with Liron Atia to create the Sound Field project, whose debut album we review in this article.
The album also offers a collaboration track with danish Lars Knudsen, the genre is Progressive Psychedelic Trance.

Tracklist OXYCD006

01. Sound Field “Psychedelic Revival” (9:41)
02. Sound Field “Technological Terror” (8:57)
03. Sound Field “Midi Tales” (8:20)
04. Sound Field “Return To The Field” (6:55)
05. Sound Field “CrossBreed” (9:28)
06. Sound Field “Dub Vibration” (8:11)
07. Sound Field “Funk Science (Southern Mix)” (9:00)
08. Sound Field “Second Step Above The Sun” (10:36)
09. Sound Field & Lars Knudsen “Lifted Higher” (8:09)

Sound Field is made up of 2 israliens who go by the names of Andy Yakovlev and Liron Atia, in 2003 they chose to create a new musical project together (Sound Field) which was to unite Andy’s melodic sounds, grooves and structuring with Liron’s flair for progressive and softer sounds for the morning hour dance floors. Furthermore Sound Field is about having fun thru the development of fresh music, the project name itself in its own way symbolizes the freedom to create anything within the field of sound.

The title of the album ”Audio Surfin’” is connected with Liron’ s love for the sea, a love he has enjoyed surfing the waves earlier in his life. Unfortunately Liron is today confined to a wheel chair due to an accident. Therefore, the title is also dedicated to him personally. The cover art is symbolic for the colors of sound the album explores.

The album offers several facets of electronic music who all seem to integrate into the general course of the album following the softer psychedelic sounds. Genres are eagerly crossed, for this reason the tracks on the album are quite diverse from each other. This diversity offers the listener funky melodies, dub & reggae sections, electro grooves, technoish repetitions, classic 303 build ups and old school goa moods, all whom are integrated into the general trend towards the softer progressive psychedelic trance style which has been so popular during the last years.

In its search for new sounds I think Sound Field has succeeded in producing a very good result, a result which quality is apparent in the diversity present on this album. In regards to flow the album works well, since I definitely feel a connection between the different variations of the tracks.

That being said I dont want to promote Sound Fields album as something ground breaking new in its genre either, since other artists are also able to produce the same level of diversity and flow. Instead, I want to say that it is a good album and a text book example of how an album can be turned into an interesting and versatile experience for the listener instead of it just being a collection of tracks of the same sound with no real progression from start to finish.

Something I miss with the Sound Field album is one or more tracks who seek to increase the tempo and energy level somewhat over the other progressive tracks. This could have added a bit of extra contrast to the album, something that would have made a positive difference for me.

I have set this album at a rating 4/5, for its variation, quality, story and all the other positive things I mention in this review.
There is still something missing musically before a rating of 5/5 is a possibility for me, at least a couple of the tracks didn’t really catch me to take me on their journey or were simply not melodicly compatible with me.

I look very much forward to listening to more releases from Andy Yakovlev, I dont know if Liron Atai will be able to produce again after his accident. For now, the project is being continued by Andy.
If you are into Progressive, whether it be of the House, Psychedelic or Deep Trance variety I can recommend you this album with a good conscience. The same can be said if you love a funky sound woven into softer progressive psytrance.
