"Daniel Costa aka Vibra is a brasilian act, which studio is based in New York.
His music is powerful night kicking full on psytrance. 10 trax on this album exploring morphing psychedelic soundscapes. Mastered at 4 Carry Nuts studios, the album starts with a more progressive track to go to more full on and kicking stuff reaching the peak with caravana, nova and arcada and slowing down with fluctuate, a relaxing theme after the psychedelic ride. Great effect on every kind of dancefloor with satisfaction for everybody."

Enough of the promotional stuff from psyshop.com, time for my review.

Tracklist :

1. Science Friction
2. Bounce
3. Caravana
4. Nova
5. Crystalis
6. Alien Beams
7. Arcada
8. Civilizations
9. Extended
10. Fluctuate

"Science Friction" (a nice play with words) - a good starting to a good album, first we have a dark mystery, after some time the mystery is being solved... and we see the scary truth hiding in the shadow. Whooo.... some of it's moments sound a bit like they were taken from some ql horror / SF film. The next track is "Bounce". And there we have it. Bouncing right into the air with music chaps!... But I sense that we'll come back to the dark cellar sooner or later. Got goosebump yet? They flashlight is broken... Sh*t!... Here comes "Caravana". Now here is an interesting track, one of those music works that I would scare little children with, hehe. Very nice indeed... bit scary tho'. Argh... somebody grabbed me by the foot... oh no... it can't be... it's... ARGH!... I managed to escape... "Nova"... like running... heart beating... muscles tight... "Crystalis" - again no reast, everything is pounding. Out of the overwhelming darkness I escape and find myself on the abandoned dancefloor... I dance... even if I don't want to because of the fact that I'm exhaused. Overall, and coming back to the reality, "Nova" and "Crystalis" are great dancefloor bombs that explode when you least expect it.
Watch out! THEY are comming!... "Alien Beams" sounds like a fine remix to the previous track... or would it be the other way round? nevermind, they are both great. "Alien Beams" is one of my favorite tracks here, maybe the best of them all, I've already had few occassions of dancing to the sounds of this weird massive killer. "Arcada" & "Civilizations" continue the hipnotic trance from the start to the end. "Extended" is a more softer and slower track in comparison with the rest of the material presented here. No doubt that it would be a great starting of a DJ-set. The whole thing ends up with "Fluctuate"... yyygh, what is that? Smells like house. *Tsk, tsk*... Well, I thought that those wicked full-onish tracks filled with psy-madness would end with a chillout track of some sort, this one's not my cup of tea. As the old saying goes : "Every paradise has it's snake". Here, "Fluctuate" is the embodiment of that snake. Fortunately we can skip that one. The only good thing about this track is the female chant in the middle. The rest is silence...
Weeeeell... After the 'lecture' of many tracks here I think that the band including :
- GMS ("Hey Riktam! Guess what? We've already made 150 tracks this year... and this is only july 2003!")
- Alien Project ("Sheesh, my fans tell me that I'm a total GMS ripp-off... maybe I'll do another album to calm my nerves." )
- Astrix ("Hey, mooom! Some dudes from Twisted records said that I cannot be on their next compilation because I make "hands in the air" music with cheesy uplifting moments... that's no fair... sniff sniff")
- Safi Connection... bahhh, you know the rest
- and the likes
all above mentioned should learn how to make good pounding and yet very intense PSYCHEDELIC music like Vibra's! Still, I do not tell them want to do... so they don't copy Vibra's patterns. ;]

As for Vibra - A must have. We get a strong bunch tracks which nicely blend full-on and progressive sound. Most of them have overwhelming wicked basslines, kewl SFX sounds and acid line swirling here and there in one package. For fans of good sounds it's a must. No grade here, just listen, dance or die!

Yours truly

I wanted to review this album as well so here goes!

Science Friction:
I agree with the previous reviewer that some of these elements come right out of a horror film. Adds to the tension and sits really well. I mean the 1st 1.5 minutes there is no music just the sound of someone being chased and taunted by childrens laughter! Awesome. At 5'10 some eerie strings and psy sounds join the kick and bass. Really good way to begin! 8/10

Bounce:
Really does have a bouncy bassline with some sounds drifting in for atmosfear. Keeps your head moving, but after a while it becomes a little boring. Nothing new is added to the pot to stir it up, so it just becomes stale. 5/10

Caravana:
Short track which begins with an oscillating sound and a low grumbly bassline. Just like the previous track some sounds drift in and out but nothing special. Good head moving track but it doesn't really go anywhere. 6/10

Nova:
This one starts with a low, seething sound and has a very spacey feel to it. Very alienesque! Then this track turns into a belter with psysounds and a space feeling that just grabs you! Well Done! 8/10

Crystalis:
A reverberating crash with a low, growling string and some opening gates...sets the scene nicely! A nice patient buildup and then a beating! Analog, hi-hat, kick, bass! Breakdown at 5 minutes so you can catch up, but do not linger. Hey, I heard Spock! Nice groover! 8/10

Alien Beams:
Hard kick and creeping sounds to begin this track. Nice psy sounds following along, but I must admit I don't like that snare. Sample gives a desolate, alone feeling, followed by some lasers! Nice! 7/10

Arcada:
Aggressive synths and a choppy bass start this track off right. Seems more of a progressive tune here that doesn't evolve into much. But it does have power. 6.5/10

Civilizations:
Eerie pad and crashes on delay start us off. Deep kick and puchy bass, with a bright hi-hat at 3 min. Along comes a rising, bubbling sound, reaching ever higher to...a pause. O...k that was ok, but I want more. That is the problem with these really long tracks, you have to fill them in with quality and try to sustain the feeling. If you can't do that, the track just drones on endlessly. Also, if you have a track that is the same name as your album, you better come with force and power! It simply wasn't done well here. 5/10

Extended:
This is more of a mellow progressive track. No excitement, no atmosphere, zilch. It's like he left the sequencer running and went to take a crap! ZZZzzzz....
I could see listening to this for a nod your head factor. But not for long. 3/10

Fluctuate:
Closing track we have a "house" feel. I'm sorry did we actually get put on a Global Underground album? Pure Dreck. Only thing missing here is a gospel singer, telling me what I need to do. 2/10

Vibra does a great job of blending Progressive with psy full-on until the title track. It's like you're hooked in the beginning and then the album just falls off. If I wanted house I would listen to Danny Tenaglia. All in all not terrible but not the first disc I would reach for. 7/10

p.s. for a great Vibra track check out the Natural Waves of Sound comp. "Abstract" brings full on with great acid lines and psy feeling.
