I am trying to create this kind of very low and deep bass, that you hear often in dub or chill-out (e.g. Ott). But I have difficulties in creating it.
I have a bassline where the fundamental goes abt. between 25hz and 37hz, so very low, and you wont even hear the fundameltal with ordinary speakers. It doesn't matter as far as you create the perception of a low pitch.
But the problem I have is the "helicopter harmonics", if you put a sawtooth wave from very low pitch, it starts to sound like a helicopter. The only way I get rid of them is with a lowpass filter somewhere between 300-400hz, but this also takes away the brightness of the sound.
So do you have any good tips how it is possible to create a "bright" bass with low fundamental so that it does not sound like a helic.
If you know Ott - 382 Seaside so that is something I am trying to do.
Maybe some harmonic generating effect that sounds good on bass (I tried already RBass but it just makes the sound muddy), some perfect tube, distortion, something.., or some vintage EQ that gives that sound..?
=)
