no it dont make sense to me, it s still mono if both chanel are identical , and it s in the middle.
download the free voxengo msed , it s very usefull and all will become very clear , in fact you dont need to know the theorie behind it for using it ,just listen... or check the net if you want the theorie on it. i m not sure how the side and middle are calculated... to me middle equal the sum of both chanel and side is everyhting else. if it s true ,middle equal mono and side all the difference between both chanel aka the stereo informations.

here mono and stereo track should not be mixed with mono and stereo information . thatz why it s not very clear ,cause it depends what you call mono and stereo . it should be defined first.
to make it more simple middle side let you separate the mono and stereo information from a sound and change their balance and/or process them differently .
where it become more confusing in theorie but not at all in practice (listening >> reading ) is a stereo signal don t mean it s on the side when converterd to middle side... a stereo sound have both middle and side information offcourse .
a stero signal with no middle information is possible and it cancell in mono |

click mono to make sure nothing is lost
it can actually work exacly to do that too.. but it takes more then 'random' work and lots of listening and turn your mono on/off
