Ive been enjoying the m/s features in Ozone 4 immensely, so much more control. Makes the 3 look lame. The ozone has the m/s option for EQ, dynamics, harmonic excitation, and i think the stereo, that I know of (dont usually use the reverb)

So basicly from what i understood is that the m/s eq is splitting the signal in mono and stereo signals and it giwes the opportunity to eq them seperately?

yep that is, M aka the middle is all the mono information and S the stereo ones .
i use it on many sounds but where its very usefull it s at mastering. for example if you want to fix something on the kick bass, equing just the middle will be more transparent for the other sounds that are stereo (depends the tracks ,that not always true but sometimes it just work fine...) or for spreading and opening the sound a little in a track that lack highs i like to boost the side just a little with a shelf filter, or if you want to eq the sounds but not the kick bass ,equing just the side may help.
in mixing i use it a lot but most of the time just for adjusting the volume between m and s information or for creative equing sometimes... think ona send after a reverb, you can make the sound a lot more open by reducing juste a little the middle information and boosting a little the side for example... checking in mono is always usefull cause reducing the middle offcourse make things quiter when played in mono, but it s all case specific ,what the track need, what works what doesn t ... a well mixed track don t need fixing like this, somtimes it can still enhance a bit the sound.
i m not sure but i think some stereo spreading tools are just middle/side balance processor... imo it can work great but just a little, the icing on the cacke... i find it better to open the sound by others technics and then just adjust middle/side balance a little if needed ... |
