Hey guys, i started listening to psychedelic trance in 2005 when my buddy threw me a mixed cd with assorted astral projection tracks. Ever since then i have been in love with the music ranging from claasic goa to the darker nightime sounds. Recently i have been determined to get a hold of some dj equipment. I have read through this forum and its many discussions and decided to start with cdjs. I plan on just doing this for hobby in home atm. I am very much a noob and would appreciate constructive criticism on my first build, as of now i plan on ordering;

I basically chose this because of the price range 400 is my limit for the moment. I believe this would be all i need of course including a sound system. Correct me if i am wrong, and thanks so much all of you for all the help tjese forums have brought. Much love. Jordan.

I wouldn't go for the gemini gear.. better if you save up for some real cdj's or use your 400 and go digital.

Gemini is like djgear from the toystore.. its crap wrapped in plastic

If you buy crap now, it will break and you will need to replace it. You might even decide to replace it with the good stuff. But if you buy the good stuff first, you'll already have it, it won't break, and you won't have spent whatever you did on the crap. The crap isn't really cheaper when you have to pay for repairs or new ones.

My first setup was 2 100s and a DJM300, used from eBay. They lasted me 5 years of heavy use and were still working fine when I sold them. But what really made me glad they were my first was actually having to play on garbage gear. Its the little things that kill, like having too many buttons, too small buttons, weird cue functions, slow awkward jog wheels....           .

ehy i buyed a hercules rmx consolle and i'm going to return it back in favor of 2 cdj 200

listen to mudpeople, he's right,
once u can mix on cdj u can play on anywhere

software for me it's good but not to start up mixing ( my exact situation)
if u know ur way with pioneers then using digital may be a breeze

I agree.

The Denon MC3000 forexample looks very nice and professional.
If I were to buy a midi controller now, that would be my choice.
Digital Dj-ing with Traktor is much more fun imo.

Ive used most of Pioneer's models and Technics' cdj1000-equivalent but I still prefer the 100s, I never use all the bells and whistles of the higher end and newer models, the minimal interface of the 100s, with just the right controls, always feels so much more intuitive and efficient.

And anyway Ive always thought its a good idea to know how to use the most basic gear, because unless you bring your own to the party you never know what you're going to have to use.

Now Im reliving the nightmare of the Numark all-in-one with only master eq and maniacal cue. And the Geminis the size of vinyl decks with more buttons than most calculators, and about that size too. Both of which I had to learn to use in the 3 or so minutes before the previous djs last track ended.

These days I use Ableton, which in my eyes takes away all the 'work' parts of mixing so i can just have fun, which is why I ever started mixing. But Ill still rock CDs if I gotta.           .

So its been a few weeks of practice, and i have been having a blast so far. I have found a formula to beat match. I have been taking the the time remaining of the last bass note of the outgoing track plus the amount of seconds into the incoming where i want to start. Those added together is the time left on the outgoing when i hit play on the incoming. I use the jog wheel to slow or speed the incoming track to line up the bass. At first i was changing tracks using the fader but have found that i like using the individual channels volume sliders instead. I have found that the level i want the high, mid, and bass vary with every song, so i listen to the incoming in the headphones while figuring the levels i want ffor the transition. I plan on recording some of my practice during the coming weeks, after some research it seems like i will need another set of rca cables, and a program such as audacity. Any tips on the recording would be appreciated! Also i have yet to figure out what auto cue and hold are for. The players didnt come with instructions, and couldnt find a pdf online ;p

Try not to get to caught up in the time left in the track. try to listen to the musical structure of each track and match that... It will flow much better. getting the drum pharasing right is very important. After you learn that then you can experiment with offseting the phrasing to create some nice syncopation...
