Anything with a sine wave (VCO or self oscillating VCF) that can be modulated (with a varying index) by a fast ADSR, is able to produce a great psy-trance kick.

I'm wanting some hardware that can produce analogue kicks and it's a whole lot cheaper than the DSI Tempest. But yeah thinking it is a tad bit overpriced for what it does.

i have had a vermona drm 1 mk 3 for 4 weeks now and i am going to sell it now
i was looking for analogue kicks as well.. nothing there you cannot make in the digital world imho + much less flexible. you tweak so much afterwards with plugins you can just use digital pitches sines imho
the rest of the stuff (snare and hats) was too retro sounding for the music i make.. so i has to go!
if you look for deep warm and technoish kicks in analogue i recommend the jomos mbase 11. veryvery deep and low kicks i have not yet heard from digital devices. tis gonna stay with me. it does not however make your standard psy kick.. have that in mind. still love it for the rest. unique!

i didnt like it, too harsh and all those kicks he made basically sound the same because of strong color. not really a diverse thing.

you are right makus, that is the thing also with the drm 1 mk3. it has a unique sound, very snappy and tight for techno and electro. you can definitely also make prog trance stuff with it. but it lacks diversity and its only good when you are looking for "that" sound it has!
by no means are the vermona products bad or not worth the money, but as psy producers we are most definitely not the main target group http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel "I've always been a believer in musical repetition to draw in the listener and make the music hypnotic.
