yep. when you zoom in you never see the pixels in vector gfx because there aren't any pixels. you see teh graphic but it's actually a mathematical expression which says to put a line there, filled by a certain color, etc.

it's good for a certain style of drawings, and used by architects all the time...
it's good for adding complex line drawings etc to let's say a photoshop image, but working 100% vector based is rare when it comes to psy-drawings (except for complex geometrics etc)
it's nice, and a lot of things are possible in it, but when you're used to photoshop you'll need some time adjusting to this new way of working... photoshop 7 also includes basic vector drawing abilities, but i haven't used them myself, Tiff uses it a lot to convert hand drawings into digital, you can see what i mean here: http://psygarden.be/vault/album25/synaesthesia )

Highly recommended and is essential for album sleave design, flyer work, poster, blah blah blah... anything where line, text, colour matching, layout is needed. I can't imagine life without vectors, but then again I am a designer...

Not really really Gilad, the real cool thing with vector is that u can easily put it in an other vectorial software (from illustrator to flash for exemple) by a simple drag-drop between the windows...
..Eaaaasy going hehe

The difference is that vector graphics are virtual representations of easily defined mathematic equations (vectors), and pixel graphics are defined by the total amount of data which relates to each of the pixels that compose the image (the files become much larger). That's why, when you work with vector graphics, you don't have to worry about the image resolution (dpi, etc) because you can have infinite resolution. There are no pixels to count! Pure maths....
If you use software like freehand, coreldraw, flash or any other vector based program, you can create shapes, text or anything else, and the information of all those elements will be saved as a math equation for each. In a picture saved in photoshop, the file will be the result of the equation of each pixel in the image. There are things that you can only do if you work with vectors, but there are ohters that you can only do if you work with "pixel graphics". For example, in a vector document, each element is assumed as an object that is independent from the one next to him. In pixel graphics, the hole picture is an object (you can obviously separate it into different layers) and you can only take objects as "pixel groups" If you are working with curves, vectors are the best. If you are working with photos, pixel rules! If you are working with both, welcome to the world of graphics design!!! |

you can do some cool stuff if you use the transform effect.
step 1. create vector object
step 2. effect > distort & transform > transform
step 3. make sure preview is on, play with scale/move/angle, change number of copies to something high (50-100 etc)
step 4. start from step 2, transform the new object
you can make some cool fractal like stuff this way. blend tool is also great when working with gradients and transparencies.
never used plugins in illustrator so can't suggest much else than this.
