Consistently excellent from front to back. Really been enjoying this. Too bad my wife stole it from me because she likes it. :/ |

Yeah, this is really good. To me it's more of a meditative, introspective sort of album, ideal for home listening, headphone contemplation, or playing outdoors in the very early morning. From the deliriously spaced-out remix of "Atmos-spheres" the album has a slightly moody, inward-looking feel that carries along until the middle of the album starts to pick a little bit with the subdued, slow trance sounds of Cell, Asura, and Aes Dana. By track 6 (Aes Dana) the album is pumping along nicely, and the track has a great, slow-burning build that builds energy without losing the spacey chillout vibe. The Distant System track is one of my favorites for this project, beginning with a cavernous stuttery vocal pad and fluttery string sounds over a crisp, subdued breakbeat before venturing into pulsing trancy bass and deep, crunchier leads and finally a heavy slow trance groove. The Solar Fields track that follows it brings the energy down a notch but has a huge funky bounce that has a real sunny, joyful feel unlike anything else on the album. Anyway, the track I REALLY want to talk about is the last one, the ultra-heavy remix of Androcell's "Neurosomatic Circuit." Holy shit, this one is heavy, with a creeping reptilian bassline that might vibrate your teeth loose and a lazily droning pad oozing fuzzy distortion that rides high above the heavy groove and tightly wound percussion. Towards the end the track gently builds to a subdued but emotional climax with a swirling melody that sounds Indian-inspired to me before breaking down into a long, hypnotic outro. Rarely do I like remixes better than the originals but this one is the exception to the rule. In closing, this is an excellent compilation that really does an excellent job with establishing a subtle, meditative vibe that is often overlooked in chillout music now. Yes, you should buy it.

I love the entire album, but that last track is the real standout for me. Your description of it is excellent. |
