EYB you want to be musician and composer and they use vary tools to get their music ,while FL one of tool to compose .
The one who say such phrase like : Use Cubase must reason why ? i know both and fruity much simplier to use and it's disadvantages do not bother me .
Produce music !!!! FL CUbase Logic different tool to reach the main .
BTW how ppl use to move from Vanguard automation to Cubase usage , does trancegate work else in Cubase ?
Use both , make sound in cubase and construction in fruity all this lame to say .....................
Use what you feel comfortable with !
I bet i can teach some Cubase users here things that fruity have and Cubase not . Same as Cubase users can teach me Cubase advantages near fruity but only if them know to produce on both like i do.
The one who call program pro and amature is rate something that he don't know what shows his lameness . |

thanks, we know... after all, we're the ones using FL. Can ANYONE plz answer my vanguard question in stead of acting like a moron? And obviously Monstrilla with his great cubase can't answer my silly FL question, so: anyone else? |

my guess here is that the trancegate setting is stored as a field of bits ...
IMHO the easiest way to automate it is to record manually the settings you need, then use the event editor to copy the resulting values (or write them down) and then use this as a base to make your automation ...

Six: yeah, I think that's a fair solution. It's a shame though, it would have been nice if you could automate every step of the stepsequencer. Another solution is running several vanguards at the same time with different trancegate patterns, but then you have to render the lot...

@bandarlog
There is a "mix"-poti which belongs to the trancegate.
I have no Vanguard on this PC, so I cant test it now, but I am sure, you are able to automate this poti!
You'll see: This "mix"-parameter will be the same as ON and OFF If you generally open and close this button..
I hope I was getting you correctly now |

Thanks guys! Kitnam: It doesn't do what I hoped it did but it's still a nice parameter to automate
& UIU: this is one fantastic tool!!!

A good habit to get into would be using a Gate plugin separate from that instrument... using a separate Gate side-chained to your instrument will give you much more control than a GUI step-sequencer built into the instrument like the Vanguard uses.
You'll control the gate pattern with a separate simple VST with it's volume turned down. You play a melody from the silent new instrument, the sidechain reads the Midi Notes from that silent instrument and uses that info to set the gate pattern.
This methods you use will be the essentially same whether you're using Fruity, Orion, Cubase, Logic or whatever.
Yes, it's annoying to learn how to do the side-chaining if you've never done it, but it's a neccesary concept for good production regardless of using FL, Cubase, Logic etc, and it applies not just to Gating but Compression and other stuff...
The appeal of the Vanguard gate is, of course, sweet sweet lazyness. You don't have to bother with that and you jump in right away to the cool stuttered sound of gating, but as you've noticed, as soon as you want to take it to the next level you're stuck. If you learn how to sidechain gate it will be a skill you can apply to not just the Vanguard, but any instrument you want.
I don't know if Fruity has a built in sidechainer but I'd be willing to bet it does (Orion + Logic do). It's worth taking the 10 minutes to search the manual and learn this valuable technique. Then your gates will have patterns far longer than the little GUI can provide with more detail, and the automation will be like any other instrument. |

Yes Fl has the KeyboardController plugin.
It is very good for this, you can link everything to played notes and to the volocity + it has envelope settings for this.
It is very simple to use, load one (the Fruity Keyboard Controller) then you can right click on the volume knob of the instrument you want to be gated and choose 'Link to controller'. On the appearing window you see internal controller click on it and select 'kbrd contr. Note'.
Now you can draw the notes which than sidechain the volume of your instrument.
Thats all.
Peace
