VA - Wrecked Chords (Spun Records, April 2006)

This release is the long waited double CD compiled by Gabriel Serrasqueiro, best known as Gabe, the man behind the Wrecked Machines project. This is a Spun Records release.
The first CD brings us 9 unreleased tracks and the second CD has 11 already released tracks, mixed by Gabe. I never listened to this mixed CD (and I not planning to), so I'm skipping it.

The mastering was made by Ido Ophir (Domestic) and sounds excellent.

There are no mentions to track times or bpms anywhere...

The cover design was made by Lanataproject and fits nicely on the cd theme.
http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?spu2cd122_b.jpg:CDs/spu/spu2cd122.html:;

Track List:
01. Wrecked machines & Pixel - Face It - 07:41
02. Growling Machines - My House - 06:09
03. Beckers - Switch (Growling Machines rmx) - 07:10
04. Domestic - Simulated (Wrecked Machines rmx) - 08:16
05. Wrecked Machines & Pixel - Relation Chip (Perplex rmx) - 06:22
06. Wrecked Machines - Music in U (G.M.S. rmx) - 07:39
07. X-Noise & Guy Salama Feat. Mc Jah-natan - Out Loud - 06:56
08. Panick - Up In Smoke - 07:10
09. Wrecked Machines - Rubberneck (Psysex rmx) - 08:15

Let's face it:

01. Wrecked machines & Pixel - Face It --> This compilation starts with a remix to Daft Punk - Technologic. This track has being played on the parties all around the world (as well as the Bamboo Forest remix to Technologic, released on his last album). But for me it's an average track, good production and the sample... Let's say, good to start the album...

02. Growling Machines - My House --> Growling Machines is the fusion of two big projects: Wrecked Machines and GMS. Usually the Growling Machines tracks are better that the GMS tracks released these days... This track is no exception, but still is not my style... Once again, good production, even some nice ideas, but something is missing...

03. Beckers - Switch (Growling Machines rmx) --> Now we have the Growling Machines rmx to Switch, one of the most overplayed track ever... It is surely a good track, but I can't stand it anymore... In fact, the words "Party Toy" almost give me a convulsive attack these days, so I going to skip this one.

04. Domestic - Simulated (Wrecked Machines rmx) --> Now this is the reason why I bought this release... 140 bpm of pure art. Of course I had to buy Domestic's original as well (VA - Think Sync), but this one was something special, Gabe's remix did justice to the original. What more to say? IMO, this track is worth a double CD...
IMO together with Silicon Sound's rmx to RPNGC (VA - Neo:Caine) this is the best remix released this year, at least that I have.

05. Wrecked Machines & Pixel - Relation Chip (Perplex rmx) --> Perplex's rmx to a track from the Wrecked Machines second album (Second Thought).

06. Wrecked Machines - Music In U (G.M.S. rmx) --> Another big hit. Go to a big party, listen it, come back and review it. I'm skipping it...

07. X-Noise & Guy Salama Feat. Mc Jah-natan - Out Loud --> Another big hit... These samples are extremely disgusting (maybe this is an example of what they call "evil, dark, scary psytrance"?? I'm scared!). Follow the script I gave on track 6 (go to a big party, listen it, come back and review it). I'm skipping it...

08. Panick - Up In Smoke --> Something different! Good to find this interesting track among so many big hits. It really looks like this track is lost between all the others here, and I glad I found it. Panick's second album is about to be released by Neurobiotic Records... This track is a good warm up!

09. Wrecked Machines - Rubberneck (Psysex rmx) --> Closing the compilation is a Psysex rmx to another Wrecked Machines track from his last album... I think is a good choice to close the album. Nice samples, something like:

"Until you get rid of the noise..."
"You must reject these distractive intruders.
It's the same way you must reject all the other radio stations when you tune into this one.
Even if you could get there once you'll hear nothing but noise.
rejecting the ...... you don't want..."

Same bass and build up formula, but all in all it a good remix, still not my style, but sober than most stuff here.

Verdict: 7/10. So what we have here? I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy this release. The next reviewers will claim that this is one of the releases of the year. Should you believe them? Well, that depends on what you're looking for...

- If you're looking for big hits this may be a release for you. Face It, Switch rmx, Music in U rmx and Out Loud are big hits being played all around the world (also GMS - Rounders is on the mixed CD).
- If you're after some serious music for your sets or home listening, then this release may fit your case, if you think the remix to Simulated and Panick's track are enough for justify buying the album, I can't imagine myself playing any track other than these two.
- If you like more psychedelic and twisted stuff I don't know why you're reading this review...
But, hey, I bought the album just because of the Domestic - Simulated (Wrecked Machines rmx), this means you should check this track as soon as possible!

Favorites: 4(!!!), 8.

Recommendation: I recommend the remix to Simulated and the Panick track. All other tracks by your own risk. I know a lot of people will enjoy these other tracks full of vocals, so listen to the samples and decide for yourself.

A compilation above Spuns usual standard. Sure, it does contain a big dose of the usual cheesy Spun-trademark hands-in-the-air tracks ("Music In U" remix, "Face It", "Switch" remix, "My House" and the atrocious X-NoiZe track), but there are quite a few solid tunes as well.

I bought the CD only for the Wrecked Machines remix of Pixel, and it fully lived up to my expectations - very true to the original, and it brought me back to the "Think Sync" days where labels like Com.Pact still released cutting-edge full on with a progressive edge. Nice to hear Wrecked Machines can still make high quality full on without the GMS-rave influences. The track by Panick, the Psysex remix of "Rubberneck" and surprisingly enough also Perlex' remix of "Relation Chip" where also standouts for me.

So, in my opinion 4 good tracks out of 9 - not a stunning compilation, but worth the money.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

A compilation?? The first thing that entered my mind on seeing this at psyshop was that it looked like an artist album. There are only 2 tracks of the 9 in which Wrecked Machines isn't featured himself. Bah, I hate compilations compiled by artists which only think that they themselves release the tracks needed for a compilation. Having said that, some good tracks here, I'm with profane on the faves. Anyway, the Simulated remix will probably pop up on another compilation by YSE, so I'm going to skip this one. My advice: if you want more wrecked machines get this. If you're looking for a diverse good quality compilation you might want to look elsewhere.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. So true (just read my review), except that the track is a remix to Domestic (but Pixel compiled the Think Sync with Domestic).

True, but never trust YSE. They'll let you down as soon as they have an opportunity.

Im a big wrecked machines fan and I was really looking forward to this album since wrecked machines are featured on majority of the tracks.

Music in U.. Being my favourite track I say is a good mix but not better than the original.

A good job has been done with SWITCH as well.

Other tracks have also been played well.

All in all a good album.. but not exactly up to the expectations.. id say

But at the end.. It was good music for my years           And Remember
Its the Music In U

the "face it" track starts really good, but then it goes into happy rave music with that god awfull vocal sample...

i have to disagree with fullon on the remix of the domestic track... i did not like it at all, the bass is nowhere close to the original, he used most of the same sounds, and i didn't like the ending melody either... total disappointment for me...
the rest of the cd did not move me in any way... sure the production is nice, but nothing very interesting...

cant believe theres someone who doesnt like this rmx!

from the second the kickbass kicks in, it holds u in ur position listening to it!

for me everything is placed good(almost excellent)in this track!

at first when i listened to the album i went directly to switch rmx which is good guys!

and at parties i tend to play the "hit tracks".they are all wisely produced-really great soud.

but in terms of music atmosphere AND production, well simulated is the one!

all in all i think its a good release-ppl will have fun with it!

"My House" rules !!! its definatly my highlight on this CD.. i don't really like the remix to switch this time its kinda wierd.. Music in U remix is interesting but it will be hard to beat the original !!! I haven't given this release enough listening time yet, so more details to come when i disect the album a little more !!

and the only thing missing in "My House" is about a minute !!           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

cd 1 was ok too much of the same heard over and over stuff...

cd 2 also has rounders, music in u , rubberneck well whats the difference its almost the same trcks...anyways cd2 isnt all that great but some parts take a nice buildup

overall the compilation is just all right..!
