VA – Thelema (Pi Production)

Pi Prodcution (www.pi-production.com) is a new label from Berlin, Germany which is directed towards the more heavier and darker sounds of psytrance. “Thelema” is Pi’s first compilation with uprising new talents and also very well-known artists. Lets see what we have here:

1. Painkiller vs. Mekkanikka – System Switch
The compilation starts up with a very experienced duo of Painkiller and Mekkanikka. These guys really rock the shit up in the beginning. A well powered and grooving-kind of baseline fluids over the dancefloor together with a nice bunch of psychotic fx sounds. The percussion lines of high-hats and mid-punched snare pressures into your ear and grooves the whole track.
The break vocal “System” and a nice lead sound introduce into a new stage of sound feeling. Harsher sounds follow together with a nice sync-melody. Perfect opener for this compilation !
Recommended.

2. Tube – Acid
Tube comes from Israel and follows up in the well-known artist row. His last album on Chemical Crew blows out any mind, doesn’t it ? With “Acid” he shows again his knowledge in arrangeing great tracks. This track has a real dark touch with a depp leveled-baseline note. The Kick strokes perfectly. I liked very much the upbuilding of the track after each passage. After a short break starts another tricky moment couples with several events and he always surprises you again ! Try it – it works !

3. Dimitri Zara vs. Synthogen – Galactica
These both artists get on stage as upgrowing artists and they show up with a nice track. Very dark-related double baseline together with pushing percussive elements came to my ears firstly. Afterwards it goes much more into a melodic style where it is uprising all the time and starting again from the first point. But everytime starts a new loop together like a nice vocalized choir – and then finally it crashes down to a nice break. Atmospheric pads follow bound on another strong flowing baseline. Sometimes really dramatic sequences will arouse your attention while it is still deep leveled and cool. Recommended !

4. Synthogen – 3 Phase 5
Synthoghen submited a very twisted kind of psytrance track to this compilation. It ingredients high melodies – but the fine thing is, synthogen knows exactly when to stop this ringmode and when to come to another stage of story-telling. He also pushes sometimes all volumes down and only grooves-lines and fx-frickles speak then. After some atmo-sounds again the melodies start and it has some taste of insanity. Twisted mood but psychedelic !

5. Toxic – Irreversible
I love that baseline ! I is 100% present and pushing. Full power, and nice drumloops in combination with synth sounds here and there. Toxic released his album some weeks ago and he shows also on this compilation his pressure. Really straight and bright story of another grinding psytrance point of view.

6. NRS – Never Get Out Again
Pi Production had a good handling by choosing this track for the compilation – it starts the second half of this nice compilation. NRS is pumping and rolling – a fullon track with tricky moments and gloomy mood atmosphere. The track is a really re-freshing nighttime track where the dancefloor can speed up and dance like hell. And NRS stands in the back and pitches like the devil ! Enjoy it on the dancefloor and – DJs: Play it !!!

7. Dimitri Zara – Alessinha
´The second view of Label Head Dimitri Zara with “Alessinha”. Here he shows a really twisted and dark psytrack. Twisting high melodie-touched rhythms together with also angel-like atmospheric arp-patterns. Always running a really deep baseline and slow growing elements which you cant recognize until they put themselves so much in the foreground you cant miss them. A really dark pitch for a dark-fan !

8. Hyper Synapse – VD-m
Groovy, groovy and again groovy. Hyper Synapse grooves all over the track. Well placed synth moments combined with strong percussion loops. It always pushes you around and even when you might think about to stop – there comes another nice mindtrick from Hyper Synapse. He brings your own synapsis to glow in the dark. I liked the balance in the track; it is not overloaded and not to minimal, all the time pushing and flowing. Nice Synthlines are in the main part as well as pads high-and-ups. Recommended !

9. Bombax – Rip Up And Retry
Bombax is also a new talent on the dark-psytrance-heaven concluding this heavy compilation with its own taste of twisting and dark-mood track. It really “rips you up” and for sure you want to “retry” it as soon as possible. Upspeeding new starts with synth lines and nice stereo effects where he plays wih the left and right channel on several parts. Also in his tracks are more or less melodies with a twisted touch and unreal side of conscioussness but perfect for the story he tells ! He also shows diversity in arranging and proposing the track’s elements.

To sumarize, VA – Thelema is a real night time killer for any heavy party which needs another spice in its program. This is a well working dancefloor compilation with different artists who show several places and stages of darker related psytrance. Most of them were also very killer on my own home studio monitors and I guess it works perfectly for your Ipod or mobile player – but be careful, don’t play it while you are jogging through a forrest at night ! ;-)

I got this album because of the Toxic track. It's great, of course, the best on the CD. Some of their recent stuff has been only so-so but Irreversible is better.

I was surprised to find some other good tracks on this. 1-5 are all good. Nice dark mood. 6-9, a little boring. Overall, very good VA. Most comps I only like one or two tracks.

nice compilation this one. the nrs track is great. i think its a rmx of his track ' never get out ' on va - symptoms of compliance. none the less great track that one. the synthogen tracks were really interesting. not your standard stuff, something intrinsically twisted in them hehe. anyways great going by the label and the artists.
