Yoyo’s “Life” series has now reached its third chapter. It all started around two years ago with “Life Is”. I’d say it was roughly a year ago when “Another Life” came to be. Now, it’s time for “Creation”. I’m not complaining that’s for sure. To me the “Life” series has shown that there’s more to full on country than er, full on. More than that it has shown me that also full on artists know how to do it.

Judging from Creation’s predecessors this compilation here should be one smooth gem. Life Is and Another Life were rather different to eachother so before hearing this one I had no idea what to expect. I must now say that it’s far more similar to Another Life.

There are people who say that Cosma’s “Simplicity” was the album of its release year, a milestone for music or something else in that fashion. There are people who say the same about Cosma’s latest, “Nonstop” that is. Then there are people like me who find both Cosma albums pretty much the most overrated things in our scene. That however is irrelevant for this tune here obviously isn’t trance, it’s something better. So “Ethnic Bialick” it is. If you ask me the first few minutes aren’t good for anything but nevermind that for once that magical three minute mark is left behind things start changing. The bassline is definetly the key here. Some might say that it’s oppressive. Others, like me for example find it rather splendid. The way it playes together with that umm, piano? Granted, in a way it’s oppressive. But oppressive music is good, right? Positive, very positive surprise from Cosma. He did earn his right to have a tune on this compilation if you ask me.

Bwicked goes with the energic start. I’m now at 01:41 and I’m totally in love with what I’m hearing. “Hey” scratches, uplifting synth thingy, bassline does what it’s ment to do, beat is doing its thing, perfect harmony. “Houston” samples, wave synths, robotic disturbance, it’s all here..

Next up is Infected Mushroom’s “Lora”. As you might have noticed every single track the boys make, well, you can always recognize that it’s done by them, doesn’t matter even if you hear the tune for the very first time. This is no anomaly, granted it does take a little longer, but once all the flavour is in attendance, a little after 01:30 that is, there’s no question about the manufacturer. “Made in the Mushie studios” tag is so there! This tune has nice acoustic guitar thingy that’s present pretty much all the time. Great! One thing to critisize; what the hell is up with the ending, it’s like they pulled the plug out and that’s it..

Idan Raichel’s ambient project, which bears the name “Idan Raichel’s Project” (wonder where he got that one from) is next up. The beginning might seem boring if you don’t know what to expect, but once the bassline enters it all makes sense. The voice, ah the voice, I could write a 50 page novel about that voice. What’s her story? This is what ambient is all about. Ambient? Okay psychedelic/freestyle/dub/downbeat/upbeat/ambient/triphop/chill out/groove music. Too bad it ends so soon..

Now it’s time for the other half of Violet Vision, Jonathan Dagan that is, to show what he’s workin’ with. We begin with beats and horns and bass. Just as you thought it was all going to end you get Noa Lembersky’s voice with a dozen or so effects thrown over it. “Another Life on the worst..” Nevermind how the lyrics actually go for there’s more to it. More being the guitar. I mean [capitals]the[/capitals] guitar. That’s indeed a guitar. And that’s a solo! What a tune! One of my personal highlights for sure. When will we see J.Viewz album?

Angel Tears have proven themselves. Not the most psychedelic sound around but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. They’re way too under estimated if you ask me. Just listen to this, flute, female voice, male voice, all on top of a mellow bassline/beat thingy. Doesn’t sound that unique? Well no, not now that I write it, but just wait once you hear it. The guitar isn’t bad either, exact opposite actually.

Before you know it’s already time for Oforia’s “Day Dream”. We’re definetly at the lounge now. The drummer, the bassist and the pianist are all doing their thing. Playing groove music without being too groovy. The guitarrist enters a little after 02:00. Finger picked guitars are always nice. This isn’t one of those “Whoooa” tunes (not to me anyways), never the less it’s cute little chiller.

I haven’t heard of Future Prophecy in quite some time, telling the truth when I think of Future Prophecy I think of Astral Projection like music, I wonder why. Oh well.. the beginning doesn’t promise much, but well, it only makes that terrific uplifting melody even more pleasant. But no time for that yet. We advance with a groovy bassline as the beat remains basic. 02:40 the string thingies promise a difference, time for a small break “revolutions, revolutions” fainting away, a few final hi-hat hits, the bassline goes strong, long synth, and now! No, apparently not just yet, what's taking so long? 03:46 it begins. This is more like it! This is the thing I’d love to hear in modern psytrance aswell. Some call these melodies. It’s pretty much a lost concept in psytrance. Back to the track. Lets start building things around the melody. Effects, wah wah guitars, hi-hats, snares, kicks, and then it’s already gone. Sure was a blissful moment. It takes as little as a melody of that sort and I’m totally mad in love.. another personal highlight..

And so it’s time for Echotek. The tune is titled “Freak Africa” and you sure can hear some African chant/sample thingies in the beginning, and they aren’t going anywhere. It’s all here but for some reason I’m not buying it, don’t ask me why cos I don’t know..

Zino & Tommy deliver us a tune called “Aint gonna hurt you”. Listen to it for a few seconds and it’s guarenteed that you’ll be hooked. Everything here is snarling, growling and dark, but there’s hope too. These guys, have they made an album, will they make one? Loving this just as much as I did their tune on Another Life.

Now it’s time for the other half of Violet Vision, Shay Raviv that is, to show what he’s working with. Before I begin; is this a remix to a famous tune? Where are those strings taken from? Why is’t that I hear a tune (the string part) almost identical to this in Lord Of The Rings – Return Of The King trailer? If it’s a remix I’m sure this here is way better, after all it’s done by Shay Raviv. Those strings are gorgeous! And ah, when the strings go away the electr-o-madness enters. People, this is epic music! There aren’t many vocals here, but hey, it’s Michele! I guess in a way you can hear it, I for one didn’t before I checked the booklet. But now that I’m aware of it, I guess I can hear it..

Feedel’s “Cup Of Water” isn’t my kind of water. I mean there’s nothing really wrong with this tune but there are just way better tunes on this compilation. Somehow things lack direction in this one. That’s all I’ve got to say about that..

Finally it is time for Violet Vision’s “Your Voice”, but now were not given hybrid breaks for this is the “Pulse Mix”. That’s kinda obvious, you can definetly hear it once the tune starts, Noa’s voice is all fine, there’s a piano, a “plick” sound and some chilled drums. 01:30 and we get a stable beat. This must be one of the most chilled Violet tunes I’ve heard this far. There’s some drum play going on after 03:00. And ah so mellow, so chilled, so ummm mellow.

Final page is done by Mo Shic. I’m not too familiar with him, infact I’ve heard exactly one tune from him, and that was a remix to Violet Vision’s “Your Voice”. If I’m right Mo Shich is more like House/Progressive producer, but that’s all right, everyone is welcome at the Life series. As long as you keep it chilled and inventive, you’ll be just fine. I guess it’s Mo Shic’s style to keep things simple, and umm, a little repeative, but that’s okay, this tune is great for falling asleep, also serves as background sounds. If you didn’t manage falling asleep before 03:00 you might just aswell forget it for now things got a bit more interesting.

Life Is... Creation delivers what is expected. We’ve got a few “Whoooooa times ten” tunes here and a few “Whoooa” tunes and well, good music. This is indeed one of those must have ambient compilations. I’m hoping Yoyo doesn’t let “Life” be a trilogy..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

3. Infected Mushroom – Lo Ra
4. Idan Raichel Project – Tigset
5. J. Viewz – Room For Me, Room For Sweetz (Laid Back Mix)
6. Angel Tears – Vision (Vocal Mix)
7. Oforia – Day Dream
8. Future Prophecy – Revelations

10. Zino & Tommy – Ain’t Gonna Hurt You
11. Gray Matter – Reconstructing A Dream

13. Violet Vision – Your Voice (Pulse Mix)
14. Mo Shic – Creation (Feel My Heart)

First out is a track by Cosma who tragically died last winter in a motorcycle accident in Goa, India. His second album Nonstop was just finished right before it happened, and was released on HOMmega Productions a few months later. Here we get a taste of the album. A nice, smooth track, with relaxing floating sounds, a beautiful voice and some piano. Nice start on this compilation. Track 2 is by Bwicked (Bertin Katz) who has released a couple of tracks on Iboga records in Denmark and Spirit Zone Records in Germany. This track sounds a bit more sad and melancholic. Track 3 is a new track by Infected Mushroom who released their fourth album (Converting Vegetarians) this year. The track we get here is not on the album. It follows the experimental part of their last album (CD2). Classical elements and guitars mixed with electronic beats, sounds and melodies. Track 4 is an interesting project by Idan Reichel, who mixes tribal drums and influences from Ethiopia, with some beautiful vocals and electronic chill out. Nice one. Track 5 is by J. Viewz, which is a side project by Jonathan Dagan, most known as Violet Vision. Here we get some chilled easy listening lounge chill. Track 6 is by a more well known project called Angel Tears, which is Seb Taylor (aka Shakta, and Digitalis) together with Momi Ochion. They have released three albums together on Master Productions. Here they give us a really beautiful organic track as usual, full of nice female vocals and floating melodies. Good one.

Track 7 is surprisingly a chilled track by Oforia (Ofer Dikovsky), who is most known for his banging trance. He gives us a happy, chilled track, perfect for the beach or in a relaxing café. We get some guitar, and relaxing beats. Track 8 is also by a known name in the trance scene. This is Future Prophecy, who gives us a taste of their forthcoming album Concept Of Love. They give us some funky guitars, mixed with relaxed beats. Echotek (Micha Yossef) is known for some strong releases on several trance labels. Here he give us a beautiful, deep, groovy down tempo track, with and atmospheric sound picture. Track 10 is by two guys I haven’t heard about before, called Zino & Tommy from Ibiza, who releases music on a label called Electric Chair Records. This track goes in a dubby style. Totally relaxing, almost sexy music. Track 11 is by the other half of Violet Vision (Shay Raviv), with a side project called Gray Matter. This track sounds pretty dramatic, and we get vocals by Michelle Adamson who sings in several tracks by Shpongle, Violet Vision and Infected Mushroom too. Track 12 is by a new group called Feedel (Nadav Katz and Barak Rozen). They do it a bit more jazzy, with nice acoustic guitars mixed with electronic floating sounds. Very chilling, again in a sort of café style. Track 13 is a taste of the latest album by Violet Vision (Unfold). This track was also released on a CD single. Here we get a new remix of the track. Very experimental, with a lot of female vocals. The last track on this compilation is by Mo Shic (Moshic Shlomy) who is some kind of star in Israel these days. This track reminds me a bit of the kind of music Moby has released the last couple of years. Chilled music, with some vocals. A slow, relaxing finish on this compilation.

Brand New Entertainment delivers another good quality chill out compilation with this third chapter of Life Is… This is pure Israeli music all the way through, where some of the biggest stars in the psychedelic trance scene has gone freestyle and show us their way of making relaxed music for home listening.

Infected didn't make them- a very talented French guitar player did, as you can read in the credirs, that is if you bought the CD...
