This is actually a decent compilation. I was pleasantly surprised. Still a lot of cheese factor, but with this artist roster I was expecting pure fondue. so yes, somewhat of a pleasant surprise.

Artist: Various
Title: Digital Performers
Label: Exposure Productions
Format: CD
Released: January 2005
Cover: http://217.160.138.169/pic_b/exp1cd002_b.jpg

Review:

The greek label Exposure Productions started up last year with a "All Systems Go", a compilation that had a very impressive list of artists considering it was a debut, and also received a good deal of positive feedback. The label opens 2005 with a new compilation in the same league; "Digital Performers", containing some of the same acts from the first compilation like Logic Bomb, Orion and Silicon Sound, and a lot of other big names in full on circuits like Dado (both as Deedrah and Synthetic), Wizzy Noise, Astrix and Altöm.

So, everything is in place to one hell of a full on compilation – but can the impressive roster of artists live up to the expectations?

01. Altom – All Of That
First up is the French duo Altöm, with their crystal-clear groovy full on. Not much has changed since their 2nd album "Groove Control", although "All Of That" is perhaps slightly more melodic, and though it feels pretty fast-paced, it's "only" running at 140 BPM. Good opener – proves, that of all the bigger full on acts, Altöm is probably one of the funkiest.

02. Orion – Speaker Speaker
Danish trancelegend Jean Borelli is present with "Speaker Speaker". After some somewhat disappointing albums, both on his own and together with Alien Project, he really kicked ass with his track on Neurobiotics "Neurology", and this is up there as well. Full on, but yet with his own distinct sound and atmosphere. Uplifting and psychedelic with a slight progressive touch.

03. Wizzy Noise – Opus Drive
Greeces biggest act on the scene after the millennium, Wizzy Noise, delivers a huge bomb in "Opus Drive". Hard-hitting full on with Wizzy Noises well-known techy influences, yet extremely uplifting and melodic. The first real highlight on the compilation.

04. Logic Bomb - Deuchland
"Deuchland" (what the hell does that mean? ) is from the Swedish Logic Bombs, and like always from them, it’s multi-layered, highly psychedelic and with loads of weird effects on top. The style hasn’t changed much since their last album "Unlimited", but the formula is still working, and no one has succeeded in copying their sound yet. Typical Logic Bomb track.

05. Dino Psaras Versus Deedrah - Hellraiser
Up next is a collaboration between Dino and Deedrah, two names who needs no introduction. "Hellraiser" seems like a very suitable track for the track, and you can definitely hear both artists influences; the rough, hard-hitting production of Dino and the more polished work of Deedrah. Dancefloor material for sure.

06. Astrix - Oranda
"Oranda" is from the Israeli wonder Astrix, who in less than a few years developed into probably one of the most popular acts on the scene, and if one, he was probably one of the most important factors in the new wave of Israeli full on. "Oranda" is more or less your typical Astrix-track: very melodic and catchy, and while it perhaps isn’t his best work ever, I prefer it over much of the stuff on his newest album.

07. Silicon Sound Featuring Jaia - Passengers
"Passengers" is interesting French collaboration between the full on act Silicon Sound, and one of my all-time favourite morning acts, Jaïa. Jaïa hasn’t released much new stuff the last few years, but is set to release a highly anticipated album on Digital Structures this spring – and this track is a nice teaser, although it sounds like Silicon Sound was most dominant in the collaboration. Excellent, uplifting morning music – smooth as slik.

08. Alien Project – Alien Technology
A lot has been said about the Israeli Alien Project, and I agree with most of it. His music is closely related with Astrix, and the last track of his I found good, was actually the old Astrix-collaboration "Midnight Sun". "Alien Technology" is unfortunately another pale creation from Alien Project – the same sounds and effects he used so many times before – definitely a filler.

09. Space Cat – H2O
Space Cat did the mastering of the compilation, and here he is with a track of his own, "H2O". I guess the production is pretty good, and the melodies are very catchy, but I found the guitar and squeaky Space Cat-trademark synths quite annoying and stressful. Didn’t like this.

10. Synthetic – Mind Splinter
Finishing the compilation is another track from Dado, this time with his more raw and techy sideproject Synthetic. "Mind Splinter" is certainly the least formulaic track on the compilation, keeping a slow pace and evolving from gloomy to dreamy - a well-chosen closure to the compilation.

Bottom line:

The artists featured on "Digital Performers" are some of the biggest and most sought after on today’s psytrance scene, and while some would probably call it commercial, I just think of it as a good, professional release. No, you shouldn’t expect something totally groundbreaking or highly original, but if you’re "just" looking for a compilation with some of the best full on the scene has to offer at the moment, look no further. Not only do I think it’s a must-have in every full on DJ’s case, a lot of the tracks are also great for home listening.

This is the best full on compilation since Neurobiotics "Neurology", and alongside Pixels "Reality Strikes Back", the best full on release I’ve heard so far in 2005. Good job.

Favourites:

1, 3 (!!), 5, 7 (!!), 10 (!!)

Verdict:

8/10

Nice review Profane.

My favorite tracks are altom, silicon sound vs jaia and logic bomb.

Space cat is nice but it do seems like his last release city of dust specialy the melody style which is nice. although i had like it, it does get boring fast, anyway i like H2O more and hope i enjoy it longer.

Alien project track is nice but as always from him it could had been a LOT better. Except for his last album which was a total failure imo.

Mind splinter is interesting track, hellraiser is very hard to me but i do liked the psychedely in the end of it.

All the tracks are high quality for sure lacks originality as most full on stuff released these days but still this CD is worth buying IMO. Congratulations Detox.

Realy nice cd. I liked the harder tracks in it as usual, but all in all a decent compilation as said with some really good tracks in it. I would wish for Prometheus next time though .

P.S. Also nice artwork By Mickey Noise, mastering by Space Cat and reviews by the guys.

Well well, looks like Detox cooked us another delicous compilation for us. This is without a doubt the best full on compilation i've heard this year (well i'm cheating here, cause it's also the only one i've heard ).
So what do we have here:

3 Mandatory Alien Project, Space Cat and Astrix tunes. Nothing interesting there.
1 Electro VS Psy grinder. Wizzy Boyz will rock you!
1 Blast from the past. Jaia takes Silicon Sound to dizzy new heights.
1 Confusing tune. Dado with his Synthetic moniker. I just don't know if i like it or not.
2 Average tunes by Dado & Dino and Logic Bomb. Those guys can do much better, i know it!
1 Orion tune that delievers full spectrum psychedelic experience. Wow, this guy knows his job, i tell ya.
1 Altom tune, that although sounds exactly like every other Altom tune i've heard, never the less it is a good one.

Summary: If you like Full on, this one is for you. Why? Because nobody brings such a strong tracklists these days. Not even Tip.World

My personal favorites: 7!!, 3, 2!!, 1!
Personal note to Jaia: We want the album! But we're willing to wait a year so it will be as good as it should be.

Wow man.. This compilation is just BOMB stuff.. I still can't get over just how many quality artists are on this album. I really hope everyone notices the luxury of having an album with more than 2-3 good tracks on it. (like most of the albums and VA's now a day's). This is definatly my favorite full-on compilation in a while..

It starts off with on of the nicest sounding intro's i've heard in a while.. the soft, dreamy melodies opens your mind and gets you ready for this journy. Altom sends us a funky paced tune with ton's of psycadelic twists. A real clean sound, with new school altom sounds.

Then comes Orion with one of his best full-on tracks (IMO). This is totally my style of full-on. Its really progressive and alot less minimal than most orion tracks. A must for early in the peak nights..

WIzzy Noise does it again with the most electronic track on the album. This is totally Wizzy by nature, yet not as obvious as most of his tunes. Its more towards Maniac Distortion, but its much more groovy. This one is the best tune off this comp (IMO). My favorite Wizzy tune since Reversable, its just massive stuff. (Hardcore Wizzy fan here) hehehe.

This track really caughy me by surprise.. i really didn't know what to expect from Logic Bomb. (not being the biggest connaiseur) Starks off kicking with a bassline thats really pounding . Strong atmosphere's With fun buildups Make this a real interesting one. It almost sound's 303 acidy, but yet its not as high toned and annoying as it should be. It also has a really nice progression, moving from more trancy sounds, to harder, faster paced stuff. I must say its a great one. (it almost at some points sounds like Scorb's Metabolic Activity tune (note, its only a small resemblance, im not implying that they ripped off anything from anyone, i just thought it would be cool to mention it so people would maybe take the time to try and understand my twisted jokes hehehe)..

Dino and deedrah tag up once more (they must almost be sleeping with the same girls LOL) This one's great with an Stereo Electric sounding bassline (like wizzy noise's in a sence, not by sounding the same, but in the way it evolves). It makes me feel an evil groove with funky hat patterns. I think these two should start a new project name or something. There stuff is massive.. If you liked there previous works, i don't see why this wouldn'y apeal to you.

This next one is very Astrixy, with the exact same bassline as Scientific Reality (im not the biggest astrix fan either, and that's pretty much the only tune i've heard and rememberd from him.) It sounds a WHOLE lot cleaner than scientific reality though, and as the bassline changes, it gets a little cheezy (I find), then gets back to the same bassline and the track kicks away. (its my least favorite on the album, but im sure many people will like it as there best. I just don't really like astrix, sorry.) Its pretty normal sounding until 5:35 secs into the tune ( yes yes, near the end) and from there on, i really like the track.

As for Silicon Sound and Jaia's team up, well, i was really looking forward to seeing what these two can cook up together (its nice to see different artists working together). Like other's have said, its mainly sounding like Silicon sound made the majority of this tune (but then again, jaia hasn't made anything in a while and i might have forgotten there sound). It turned out for the best, with some great melodies and interesting sound arrangments. Im really looking forward to Silicon Sound's upcomming album on Neurobiotic's after hearing this one).

Well, the title says it all. Its Alien Technology all right. Its a fun track if your Alien Project's biggest fan, but nothing specil if your looking for them to inovate and sound a little different. Its really nicely put together, and i would most probably play it out a couple of times at parties because its sure to get people dancing, i was just expecting more out of the track, much like i was for Oranda)

Here's something from Space Cat.. He as well hasn't put out a tune in the longest of times and i must say it takes me by surprise.. With a pounder. A nice bassline, with some cool trances. It also gets a little cheezy near as the song moves to its end. Kinda wierd since it starts off hard, and ends kinda soft.. Its a good tune for the end of a set i guess. And what's with space cat using a guitar? lol It has a very intense build up in the last 2 and a half minutes that makes the whole tune worth some air time.

What a way to end the compilation I must say. Synthetic strikes again with a great tune i must say. Its really hard to classify this one, with a psy-housy bounce, a more tech bass, machine-like snare grooves, and a soothing trance. Its his best piece of work since Icy i must say (IMO). I hope we can see more snythetic on future Exposure releases.

All in all, this is surly worth buying the CD. My rule is that when a label offers more than 2-3 great tune's, they deserve to be suported (not many i must point out [I might be too picky though, so please don't take me to seriously]) In this one, i really like the Wizzy Noise tune, Synthetic, Dado N Deedrah, Altom's tune (for that great sounding intro), Orion for there smasher, an original new team up with Jaia and Silicon sound, Space cat for his strong intro and sick build up, Logic bomb for there hard kickbass and kool progression (on a side note, Logic (as in smart arrangment and Bomb, as in heavy kick, make Logic bomb.. funny no?? hehe) And Astrix, for his polished up usual stuff.. There all killer. Its the 3d Vision of more progessive full-on.

P.s. Detox, i really hope i won the CD because i chose X-Dream to be on the next compilation. hehe

Best of Luck Exposure and i hope you keep up these golden tracklists..
