End 2003, Rich Bloor (aka Rikki Rokkit) and his team celebrated 10 years of sonic activism, may it be psychedelic (while in these days were striking names like the Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Danny Rampling, Andy Weatherall, Underworld, and so on) or later, through a raise of interest in the club culture : elektro, breakbeat and diverse declensions of the hazy term "progressive".. Like this TIP World isn't limited anymore to pure psychedelic beats but also explores the nooks of electronic music, through 3 sub-labels : 10 Kilo, Surround Sound and Lucky 7's. This range regroups an important and remarquably diversed livestock of artists.

So this compilation is born from an original concept, dipping into the catalogue of the four labels, suggesting unreleased stuff as well as deleted tracks.. We get a surprising but exciting track-list.. Here it is :

01. Fuzzion ::: Tango De Color Mango TIP
02. Pfn ::: Automatic (Superchunk Mix) 10 Kilo
03. The Overlords ::: Sundown (Ionizer Remix 92) TIP
04. Eat Static ::: Eat Static (Unreleased Edit) TIP
05. Infected Mushroom & Yahel ::: Electro Panic TIP
06. Stereo Pie ::: Blueberry Pancake Surround Sound
07. PFN Vs The Light ::: Phantom 10 Kilo
08. Pfn ::: Stitch Up (Live At The Roxy) 10 Kilo
09. Sleaze ::: Punk Sluts Lucky 7's
10. Digital Animal ::: We Are Digital Lucky 7's

Before listening to it, let's appreciate the efforts given in the CD cover layout.. The artworks choosen by TIP often give rise to discussions.. Here the concept takes precedence over SFX visual impacts or japanized pictures.. Simple and effective layout and the booklet contains an interesting label story by Rich Bloor.

Now the music !

01-- The compilation opens with the russian duo FuzZion, close to the label Boshke Beats but being also released by the TIP side (Dazed & Confused EP - in 99). This track fits together an elekro beat and balearic influences with a retro touch.. More interesting by its subtilities in the rhythmics than its ambiance..

02-- Proper Filthy Naughty follows with a self-rmx of Automatic , initially released on his fantastic album Fascination* (10 Kilo - 2003).. Another Elektro track, yet more tasty and funkey with anything requested to make the people wriggle their hips and smile openly. The bassline drive is lethal in its phatness and the production impeccable. A feast !

03-- Let's dive again into the TIP side with this anthem that blasted everything at the Source, in the early 90's.. Ian Ion adds the energetic touch and this track sounds slightly old-school but 'digeste'.. And as Rikki Rokkit wonders "And wow, does this still sound good ?" Well it is assuredly a nice slap to all the good-old-days nostalgics..

04-- A little present now.. To all the lovers of the unique Eat Static touch, with this unreleased edit of his first track ever.. You know that the other side of the picture of originality is that one doesn't leave indifferent.. So this track will be both heavily enjoyed or rejected. Having said that, it remains a canon from which the constituents will be frankly re-used by dozens of artists in the following times. And finally his sampling work was so good already in these early days ! Rhaaa roll on the Flexitones album !

05-- Oakay.. We could hardly skip it. The year 2002 maxi hit.. Played, played again, re-mixed (and how oustanding by Eat Static). Rikki confides that he can't get bored of this one.. Personaly speaking, it's nice as I didn't have it until now..

06-- Stereo Pie, based in Ibiza opens the second and (imho) most exciting part of the compilation. This one is a big bada boOm TecHouse beat, already released on a mixed CD, and EP.. One more little present then, especially for the diggers of these vibes.. And I'm a part of it. Clubby in the good sense of the word with a dirty touch that will power up my afterhourz...

07-- Now it is becoming big ! Hahaha Phantom is a hit, a monster hit that was spinned everywhere.. Its fathers ? Renegade Soundwave (yeah).. Its fabulous vocoder-sample and unique bassline drive are here re-exploited by PFN and his friend The Light. They paste them on a big blasting Hardhouse beat, pushed up by devastating hihats and maxi effective loops.. This one fits in a strong progtrance set as much as an hardouse, techno or breakz... Thumbs Up !

08-- Mouhahaha.. Stitch Up.. Phat phat breakbeat that striked a lot when released on several mixed Cds (by Renegade Soundwave for 10 Kilo or even Adam Freeland). And here we get the Live Mix ! And believe me, it blasts ! No remorse here, very deejay-friendly track (and besides available in EP only), it combines Elektro, Punk-Rock, and House with some great energy... Alarming !

09-- Now let's penetrate in the little world of Lucky 7's.. Surely the less know of the TIP group, but promised to a brighter future if they keep their dynamic.. Very deejay oriented, its catalogue is composed of vynils only, and now we have two tracks on CD ! Let's situate : because I assume that SleaZe doesn't hit you when you read it like that.. SleaZe is noone else than Benji Vaughan who numerous freaks enjoy as Promotheus, Younger Brother, Junk or Cyberbabas.. Here he lays something unique.. Unclassifiable, at the opposite of what he is known for, and that personaly I enjoy a lot ! Bizarre, dirty, punkey and exciting, for the less inhibited souls and most of all perfectly produced. To be discovered !

10-- Closing the compilation, this track is by a young collective composed of old 'figures' of the english electronic nightlife named Digital Animal.. Rock and Elektro are the ingredients.. Funny and kitsch ambiance, fresh ideas and undieniable skills are the spices ! I just love it..

So there is a compilation that shines by its diversity and that does it loud to me because there is some Proper Filthy Naughty on it !

Thanks a lot to our regular don't suggest us any 10 Kilo stuff (including PFN's album) anymore.. I call this a mistake !
