is it my ears or does the v-station distort the bass badly?
i can't control the sub-bass region without destroying the whole bass end...
im using a highpass (in waves) to cut it... isn't this how it is supposed to be done?
please help... roll a joint or STFU :) |

The v-station is a really nice synth for basslines, but like tsabeat said, you should lower the volume of the sub-oscillator. Also make sure that your kick doesn't coincide with your bass notes you should have little distortion. You probably won't need any eq on the bass at all. |

i've tryed a lot of combinations of that preset
pulling the 3rd OSC down (it's a saw i think) makes the sound too basslight for my ears...
but i'll try it again... my ears not very trustworthy lolololo
booby: my kick is not on the bassline, it's cut nicely w/ envelope...
maybe i should try another synth for bass...
thanks

Just play around a bit, also with filter env/env amount and the amp env. Then use a eq for fine tuning.
I think it is easy to make a good bass with v-station.

U can use all three osc, but u don't have to use them all. I made nice bass also with only osc1.
Compression also can be used but u don't have to compress it always.
Eqing is almost always nescary to get rid of ultra low frequencies, so cut low frequencies (depends who u like it of course) lower then 20-40hz. Then u can cut a bit resonating frequencies, search for them with the eq. Take one band of ur eq, set very high Q and raise volume to max. Then move the band through all frequencies. U will hear the resonating frequencies with a more unfriendly sound than the other frequencies (*note for me: i have to learn more english*).
Tip: lower ur main volume a bit before u do this
Now make the frequencies u found a bit lower and check if u got a bass u like.
Peace

Also another solution would be if you can't control the low end all the time would be to sample the bass note and maybe edit the audio file...
An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. |

dont forget usualy a bass sound should be mono and making it with vanguard or any other stereo synth will never be the same as doing in a mono synth.
But all depends what you're looking for.
a stereo bass would always be more Xpanded than a mono and that could give u some bass freq u dont want.. and in mono it became in your face not like a stereo. Actually i always make my bass in mono. when i tryed to make it stereo in a track, nowadays i really can´t hear that track. is way far from what i pretend from a bass sound like..
Once again because i dont want missunderstandings... all depends what u want
fica bem Joao

No no v-station is killer for bass. Why always using the same synth?
Mubali gave a great tip, sample ur synth and optimize with ur sound editor.
Peace
