The review: Another new label, another new compilation. Pure psy, no bullshit!
At least, that's what the promo wants us to believe. Let's take a closer listen.
Track 1: Starting off with lots of sampling, lots of atmospherics, the titletrack by Artifakt sets the mood with a strange and quirky track to say the least. It's executed perfectly and the main lead melody is kinda nice, but overall it's not really my thing. It has a very long intro (about 2:30 mins) and near the 7:30 the song seems to stop, but then continues again. Too quirky for me maybe. Or maybe it needs more listening to appreciate in full. Anyway, ok, but not a great opener.
Track 2: Starts off with a sample and some atmospherics. A bass starts to mumble about and some more samples come in, from Sixth Sense if I'm not mistaken, then we're off. Rumbling bassline, lots of effects, sweeps and noises and this is one busy track. Pretty psychedelic and pretty good.
Track 3: Sampling, and we begin with a fairly standard bassline and kick again. The song proceeds very nicely and although it's pretty standard stuff it manages to pull me in. Good track.
Track 4: A quirky track once again, but this one is more to my liking than track 1. Lots of effects flying all over the place, a solid little bassline and kick and this is an ok track, I like the way the track takes off later on, and the finale is crazy stuff
Track 5: "When the laughtrack starts, then the fun starts!", at least, that's what the sample wants us to believe. A bassline comes in and this sounds a little slower than the tracks before. Nice bassline in this one, pretty dark sounding. Around the 3:30 mark the laughing sample indicates that the laughtrack has started. It takes off from there. Nice track, although that sample is a bit overdone.
Track 6: It says on the back that Zion Linguist made this, but it's obvious this is a remix of Rob Zombie's track "Superbeast". So why not credit it as such? I showed the people of Vision Records how to properly do these things in my tracklisting for this Anyway, as far as remixes go, this is pretty well done. The samples from the original fit really well in the beat and hi-hats. Well produced and mixed, but ofcourse not exactly original. And I suspect there are a lot of people out there who don't like Rob Zombie's music, so they won't exactly be jumping when they hear this one. Anyway, to me, an ok track.
Track 7: We start off with some atmospherics and a bassline and kick come in. This one immediately sets a 'lighter' tone. The bassline, kick and snare sound pretty good together and all in all this is promising to be quite good, despite sounding more like israeli full-on than the rest of the tracks. Nice work on the main melody but that Matrix sample "you ever had that feeling..." could've stayed out already guys! That one is getting stale. Anyway, ok track.
Track 8: Hey, isn't that guitar like sample from 'The Cure'?? Well, anyway, it sets a melancholic tone for this one. A bassline and kick come in and we're off again. That voice sample is fucked up though. And that guitar stuff. Jesus, this is starting to sound like Skazi! Skip this one please. Horrible. If this does people in on the dancefloor they must've taken a whole lot of drugs.
Track 9: Slower, and thankfully no voice sampling in this one. Phew. Just the breath of air you need after the horrible track 8. Slower, dark and moody. Good track.
Track 10: The outro is not all that great either. A stoned chilltrack that will probably be great if you've had some drugs or spliff, but since I don't take any of that this is another skipper for me. Not great at all, generic psychill which you've heard a lot of times before and better.
Conclusion time: An ok compilation, not world shattering, but there are some nice tracks on it. I like tracks 2,3,4,5,6,7,9 the most. Track 1 is so-so, track 8 is horrible and track 10 is totally irrelevant to a compilation like this. To grade this: 7/10.

whats the matter with Artifakt, if he's tryin to make changes on music then all he has to do is Continue the work he done before, i didnt hear anythin interesting of him on 2006/2007, apart from the intro in this Track, the Pink Floyd samples from Money, wtf, is that a hint that he's goin commercial or wat? wheres the stuff like Retch, Nosferatu, Plastic or the sad melody on the last track on Artifakts II, or even the breakbeat experiments with Spindle Sect??? i miss him

ok, have to strongly disagree with some of the comments here. although i agree the compilation as a whole isnt very good (gets really cheesy on the second half with that guitar track etc), the ARTIFAKT track is nothing short of genius IMO.
once again he presents a brand new sound that is nothing like anything else out there, one of the few artists actually breaking ground and making inovative psychedelic dance music. fucking love this track!
the hiyarant track is also a screamer (look forward to new stuff from this project, everyhting he has relases - 3 tracks i think - has been fat as)

yeah the parana track may not have been the best selection for this CD, but we were not sure what direction we were going in and really just wanted to make a mix of tracks that cover the whole spectrum of psy.
cos everyone always says, "that's not psychedelic.. " "no, thats not psychedelic.."
so we were like: "what is psychedelic?"
but i think we gonna go more in the hiyarant/lost & found sound direction on future comps...

A good choice. That Parana track is fucked up. And I mean that in the most negative of ways, sorry. Ripping off that riff of The Cure was bad enough, but the Skazi like electric guitar sample gone bad was more than I could stomach. At least the rest of the cd is pretty good. The Noiseanomalie track for example is amazing

@Alias, i get the SA stuff, but i could never include artifakt there, Artifakts II was just PERFECT, nothin that we heard before and it was pure, and now...Batman melodies???
ps, he's nice when it comes to breakbeat too, the last one (dont remembered where it was released, a 3-4 minute track, 2007) was a nice creation...thats what i could digg from him this year at all
