Czech label Tribal Vision, with 15 artist albums and compilations under the belt, has gained recognition as what is now one of the leading labels in the progressive genre. Tribal Vision’s trademark mix of progressive house, electro and progressive trance has made the label famous through a series of successful compilations titled Lime Light, Street Art and Trash Art. With this album, DJ and Label Manager Slater launches the 1st instalment of a new V/A under the daring name of “Vanguard.”

DUCA : Green Lines
Serbian producer Dusan Sekic has already come a long way since the release of his first album as Anax on Kagdila Records in 2004.?Since then, releases under the Duca moniker at Tribal Vision, his home label, Psybooty Records, Blue Tunes Records, Candyflip Records, YSE, Prestige Music, and Flow, to name but the most famous ones, have established him at the fore of the progressive scene. “Green Line” is a low BPM Electro-House banger with Acquavivesque reminiscences thanks to the hard pounding rythmic combo. The break introduces an airy melody which recurs in the last sequences and balances the track with a light trancey feel. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking, but it is definitely a nice intro with strong dance floor potential.

EVEN 11 : Like this (KOMYTEA rmx)
Matti Heininen & Erkka Lempiäinen, aka Komytea, are a pair of still relatively unknown, yet talented, 22-year-old music writers from Finland whose productions can boast the support of big name DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto, and Chris Lake, only after a few releases. Here, they deliver a rmx of Even 11, the now well-established project of French Progressive and Morning Full-on maestros Jaia and Silicon Sound. Their track has been previously hailed as one of the tasty crackers released on the “Trash Art” compilation. The Finnish Duo adds an efficient rhythmic treatment and make it more hard rocking. The synth work pitches up the key of the original funky motif but it makes it sound like a parody or a caricature. Some might find it trippy or even funny, I find it annoying, and it does not do justice to the rest of their previous work: an original blend of strong compelling rhythms and airy atmospheres. But that is all a matter of personal taste, and Komytea is definitely a name to look out for.

TEGMA, DUCA, DJ SLATER : East Block
Once again, this intersting and original collab of three dignitaries of T.V. showcases the hard edge of Electro inlaid with techno arrangements. It uses a pounding bass and snare/kick combining panting rhythms and spooky sounds and samples. Tegma’s expertise in building driving rhythmic sections is fully exploited here, especially after the break which unleashes nice dancefloor energy. A strong track, my favourite so far, and another dance-floor burner. More of that!

GREED VS SONIC CUBE : Wilde (ELEGANT UNIVERSE rmx)
The Israeli duo Amir Ardon and Miki Litvak (of Domestic fame) formed the Elegant Universe moniker in 2005, and it did not take much time before they caught the attention of the big name DJs and label managers. They deservedly enjoy a solid reputation after strong tracks published at Vapour, Baroque-Method, Iboga and its sub-label Prestige, Flow etc.
The original was a nice crossover-genre blending piece published as a LP at T.V. The somewhat dark, introspective dimension of the original is preserved, yet it is coated with Elegant Universe’s signature deep Electro House sound. Another strong DJ tool in this compilation.

VIBRASPHERE : 102 Miles from here (JEROME ISMA-AE rmx)
Munich-based producer Jerome Isma-Ae is another famous act of the Prog-House scene, one of my favourites, who already has heaps of tracks and rmx on some of the best labels around, such as Hope, Baroque, Curve, Nervous, Flow, Vinyl... Here he is on rmx duty with a standout Vibrasphere piece taken from their last album at T.V. Keeping the original’s floating reverberated pads, adding his trademark rhythmic combo and additionnal shuffled and rattle percussions, he dabs it in a deep sonic paste with just enough trancey feelings and it works wonders.

LISH & YOTOPIA : Plastik Twist
The next piece sees two heavy weight producers from the Israeli progressive scene, Lish and Yotopia, joining forces, and I guess their fame needs no further introduction. Lish’s latest low bpm production at Iboga and Echoes for example, tends to make me read the title as a discreet tribute to D-Nox & Beckers’ former Plastik Park style of Electro-House which they now have “left behind”. And I won’t complain that these guys have somewhat taken it over! “Plastik twist” is not as dirty and filthy as the German groovemasters’ output, but it is groovy nonetheless, well-done, and has crowd-pleasing potential.

LeRON & YVES EAUX : Welcome to the Real World
Talented Dutch DJ/producer duo LeRon (multi-instrument player, soundtrack writer) & Yves Eaux (TV commercial producer) are no newcomers to the scene. With an impressive amount of releases in their curriculum published at labels such as Baroque-Method, Vapour, SOG, Sprout, and Porn, to name but a few, these guys are played and supported by a wide range of DJs like Sasha & John Digweed, Chris Fortier, John ‘OO' Fleming, Carl Cox, Paul van Dijk, Nick Warren, Pete Tong, Tiesto... Here they deliver the best of their sonic blend of tribal-house, with a catchy vocal insert in the break, loaded with funky energy. The high-pitched acid melodic intervention is a bit run-of-the-mill, but it’s a nice track though, living up to the standards of their production.

PETER JÜRGENS : You & Me
German producer Peter Jürgens of Peter Gun and Ten Madison fame, already familiar to T.V. followers and known for a couple of tracks published at other respected labels such as Invent, Blue Tunes, and Iboga, delivers a piece for the late late after hours party, with a lazy melody that does not meet the highest criteria of the genre. But if you feel like being comfortably numbed by the reverbs and the fluff of this soft electro piece, it will be OK. My taste rather tends towards some of his former productions.

TICON : In Stereo (EVEN 11 rmx)
Even 11 is back on duty with Ticon’s sweetest piece of Electro taken from their masterpiece Zero Six After. Their additional arrangements mostly concern the rythmic combo which is transformed into a soft techno and electro beat, and they inject some nice atmospheric reverb-laden pads in the second half which give the piece an even more dreamy dimension. Not a radical rmx, but a fine piece of electronica with their unique blend of sonic textures.

NIPP : Salvation
The concluding piece is signed by Prague-based producer Nipp whose sound production, with a handful of releases at T.V. and Minimax, has focused so far on deep minimal techno and house. His “salvation” fits in this perspective: a minimal introduction with a soft funky twist kicks off the piece, punctuated by metallic stabs. The break features the interesting intervention of string sounding synth riffs that eventually combine, in the last sequences, with the initial gentle groove. Sweet ending.

Bottom line
This first edit of the "Vanguard" series lives up to expectations. I would grade it as one of the best T.V. compilations, conforming to this label’s club-oriented sonic identity, and featuring a nice mixture of Electro and Progressive House with interesting contributions of the more technoish sounds characteristic of current trends. Don’t expect anything ground-breaking, but it will provide quality-laden DJ-tools, and a fair amount of these tracks will undoubtedly get spun in the clubs in the up-coming months. Also, once again, one must praise the professionalism and quality of the editorial packaging : this CD, like the previous ones, comes with a much-appreciated DJ inlay featuring BPM and even key specifications, and some nice cartoons of the artists concerned. Definitely worth the money.

I think tribal vision is going more prog house and clubby in last releases, its a shame since Iboga is taking the same way. prog trance is very weekk these days.

This is a good compilation, track 3 and also remix of ticon of in stereo is beatifull.

rally have been enjoying this compilation. this has to be my favorite T.V comp in a while as i think the past few have been a bit to fluffy and focused on just day time sounds, with this cd though you get some nice gritty basslines balanced with some smooth bouncy gems. all the tracks are really nice but favs are the Elegant Universe remix and the Even 11 tracks.....

very good stuff,

i hope the next one will be more like this one...
