Review
Emok and Banel, the two head honchos of Iboga have compiled another "Summer collection" after last year's release, before the beginning of the Summer season, of an identically sub-titled Set 5 compilation which satisfied progressive connoisseurs. Should we infer from the absence of another denomination that this will be an annual rendez-vous with progressive tracks intended for Summer open-air festival?

1. FREq : Brazil
The opening track is by Melbourne based producer FREq who needs no introduction here anymore. This track is a teaser for the forthcoming album due out in the upcoming weeks where it will be featured in a different version. Regarding the length —more than 10mn — it is an ambitious track, unfolding, as one expects from such talented and established musician, some groovy rhythmic treatment, evolving at 135 bpm. It is not a surprising piece (use of Nordlead synth) but is dancefloor friendly for sure, and will not disappoint Freq 's aficionados, even though it will not astonish them.

2. ACE VENTURA : Cardiac Arrest (Aerospace RMX)
Next is another rmx of Yoni Oshrat's seminal "Cardiac Arrest", originally published on the 2005 Set 4 compilation (the first rmx was by Zen Mechanix on last year's previous "Summer collection"). The remixer this time is Guy Shanti who recently released an album with Medium rec. under the name of his solo project Aerospace, being also a member of Evil Drug Lords. This rmx rocks!!! It brings forward a fat heavy bassline, intelligently shifts and switches some of the original's distinctive orchestration elements like the heartbeat which you will find this time in the middle break section. And above all, it adds an uplifting sun-filled synth melody which definitely gives this now "classic" track a luminous dimension where the original seemed to stem from the night. Thumbs up!

3. Elastic Motion : Dance Reaction
Elastic Motion is the pseudo for the collaboration between Manuel Duego and Mike G. Dance Reaction is a nice housey-scented piece with a melody one might find a bit cheesy, others playful and jazzy. However, the bass-kick combo does a fine propulsive job, and will be a reliable dance floor tool for sure.

4. Emok : Da Shizzy
Next is a masterpiece signed by Emok. A sexy housey smash hit, that will certainly enchant the heads and hips of this Summer's festival goers. It has a sweet funky bassline combined with classic rhythmical house synth for the groove. But the marvel is in the skillful and efficient intertwining of melodic and rhythmic syncopated synth lines which discretely evokes samba or tropical beats together with disco reminiscences, and builds up an anthem for dance and late party hours.

5. Behind Blue Eyes vs Perfect Stranger : Diamond in the Rough (BBE mix).
Now comes a fascinating piece of music. Fascinating, because the combination of three musical experts creates a unique blend wherein, nontheless, each individual contribution is recongnizable. Diamond in the Rough is a progressive masterpiece, hyper-hypnotic, perfectly danceable, super atmospheric. Take the intro and the percussive beat: it is evidently derived from PS's "Morning Blues"; the thematic staccato synth loop can easily be ascribed to BBE's "Excerpts from dreams". The first break makes a noticeable change in the bassline. One could clearly hear some BBE material here. The track features some entrancing percussion loops that seem to be Yuli's touch. Or is it? But the eerie "unheimliche" voice in the second break section might well come out of René's Pandora's Groove Box. Aside from these stylistic considerations, it is ideal music for late afternoon in a hot open air summer party.
If a « ménage ŕ trois » was ever creative and original, this one wins the medal. I can only hope for more material to come from these wonderful musicians. And we already know that PS's version of this gem will be relased by Flow.

6. Liquid Soul : I Get a Rush (Motion rmx)
Next is another teaser for Liquid Soul's forthcoming album. "I get a Rush" will feature on Nicola Capobianco's first album due in July, but here it gets the rmx treatment by Vincent Courcot aka Motion, also one of the Janus faces of the promising Solead project. Here we have the sunny side of LS's music : gentle melodic bassline on which a snare/kickdrum combo gives a light and elegant housey electro touch. The break introduces a female voice, along with a nice Son Kitish harmonic section, then an uplifting melody building upon repeated notes will alleviate the tired legs and heads after a night's 145 bpm fury.

7. Sun Control Species : Two Point Five
Now comes Sun Control Species, also with an album to come out in the Fall with Iboga. Arguably the best track from Oz producer Andrew Davidson. Especially for the brilliant rhythmic section featuring some nice percussive tribal elements, combined with delghtful atmospheric synth work. More of this stuff!
`
8. Cafu : Vista Style
Swiss producer Christian Gafner aka Cafu is no newcomer to Iboga and has already been published by Mikrokosmos, Aphonix last year, and has collab with Insane Creation on his album released by Domo. If I am not mistaken, he also has a full length album scheduled with Avalanche. Here, he delivers a House classic, well produced. Not exactly orignal, but a good filler, and a dance floor friendly asset for the beginning of a DJ set.

9. Flow e Zeo Vs Audio Factory : Movin'
We end up with very soft, yet delicate Prog House music from Brazilain Flow e Zeo teamed with Audio Factory. These new names in the Iboga roster deliver a composition that is sweet all the way and makes a nice way to finish the album.

With this relase Iboga has definitely matched the quality of last year's "Summer Collection" if not surpassed it. It is a quality-laden album that definitely provides "brilliant" tracks, in both senses of the term : that is to say, the music addresses the shiny hours of the day, and the production is top notch. Special Mention goes also to the elegant cover work by Bakke. My top favourite are the BBE vs Perfect Stranger, the Emok,, the Aerospace rmx, the Sun Control Species, but there are no weak tracks here. Thumbs up Emok and Banel!!! This one ranks high in the Iboga compilations, and should be a great travel-mate for the DJ's of this Summer's events.

Great compilation, as almost always in Iboga's case. It seems they can do no wrong. Keep it up guys! Love the Sun Control Species track, it's really time for that album now           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Might not be the best Iboga V/A so far to my taste, but it definatyely has some highlights like tracks from Freq, Emok, BBE vs Ps and Sun Control Species as usual. Can't wait for SCS album!
Overall it's more to housey direction, but hey it's summer indeed.

Banel & Emok has compiled yet another smashing compilation, meant for this yearĆs editions of summer festivals and events around the globe.Summer Collection 2 contains a new fabulous track from FREqs upcoming album Gosub 2, due out in June 2006, in a different mix. The ace Ventura hit ôCardiac Arrest has been well remixed once again, this time by Aerospace. Elastic Motion is brilliant collaboration between Manuel Duego & Mike G. Emok has written yet another powerful tune freak out of the Iboga studio, where also Behind Blue Eyes and Perfect stranger has written a track together which has two versions, Heres the BBE version. Ps version will appear on Flow. Motion has in great style remixed I Get a Rush from Liquid Souls upcoming album on Iboga. SCS delivers a teaser from his forthcoming Iboga album, due out this coming fall. Cafu is a new name to look out for, bringing in a deep groovey progressive style. Ending the CD in nice fashion, we get a Brazilian collaboration from Rio.           Setidat from INTERGALACTIC FEDERATION @ TURTLE SYSTEMS

Alot of tracks here are more like progressive house... but this is very Good!
The Emok track is Wicked, progressive house with a trancey touch, a litlle bit like flow job, its suberb, simply a masterpiece.
The Cardiac Arrest remix is so nice too and the melody is breathtaking, I like this better then the original. Please more remixes more from aerospace!
The BBE mix is so smoth and amazing too.
This 3 are my favourite tracks from this comp. but all tracks here are good!
Just don´t see way everyone likes the SCS track so much, its pretty decent but IMO one of the less good here.
Wonderful compilation and perfect for the summer feeling!
Iboga rules!
