I read on the Exotic Native website (down at the moment), that there is a pretty old album called "Alloys" released in 1998 (I think), so it's definatly not a newcomer

I've been looking everywhere for it ... no result :|

Im pretty sure this old album is not in the same style he is doing today, much more commercial euro style (dont quote me %100) but profane, if u really wanna hear it im sure i can arrange it with him if u wanna pm me...cheers;)

this is insane ... what a tracklist , this compilation has it all ... funky , groovy , melodic , organic even mystical trance .

my favourite tracks are :

Lube - Lay Jo
ooooo yeah , smooth vocal ... catchy groove , all the ingredients a real tribal trance stomper should have ... tasty !

Freq - Short Life Again
the very best trance I heared lately , it even has for the first time in trance history (correct me if I'm wrong) a 'Lord Of The Rings' sample in it ... the overall vibe in this track is just astonishing , very deep ... very organic . Can't wait to hear his debut album on Iboga records within a few months .

Phoney Orphants - Scratchi
very special track , faster bmp to get you into this darker mystical atmosphere ... this is music to be played in the ruins of an old castle . That's how I feel about it

Buzz & Fabio - Easy Rider
funky minimal dance-friendly trance . it would be nicer if Buzz could experiment a bit more like he did in 'breath it' but this is just perfect .

the rest of the compilation is also pretty interesting , Ticon delivers a power track , not their best one but if played on a party no doubt people will start jumping. Also Oxyd is nice , summer might be over here in europe but this track brings back those sunshine memories . Vision & Canedy is more tech-trance but with some wicked mind twisting loops on top of it . And the last track by Haldolium is electro-trance , sounds fresh ... fits perfect with the 'revive' coverdesign ...

thank you Laureth and Sascha

9/10

a must !!!

Two of the best dj's in the trance scene, Laureth and Sascha (Bitmonx) bring us the rebirth of Plusquam. Before we look at the comp, I just want to say that these two are absolute professionals behind the decks with all the tunes and the skills and I highly recommend them to anyout out there producing parties!

OK, now the CD.

You can divide this compilation into 2 parts:

part #1: The Freq track

part #2: All the rest

Freq's "Short Life Again", in my opinion, is the best track I've heard this year, and the best track Plusquam has ever released. This music is so far beyond what is usually considered "progressive trance" that I hope this is a start of a fresh new direction in the scene. This tracks successfully combines a psychedelic "mind" experience with a groovy "body" experience. (Actually, I find it much more psychedelic than "psytrance" and much more groovy than "progtrance".) It's about time trance musicians started to make intense psychedelic music like this in the low bpm's of house music.

Compare this track to say the Buzz track for example. Buzz is nice and all that, but it's so repetitive and straight that I can't possibly listen to the whole thing in headphones, while the Freq track is constantly evolving and exploring new themes. This organic quality gives it life that none of the other tracks have. The creativity and abundance of ideas in this one track is astounding.

The other tracks are almost all good (except for the Oxyd track which I don't like so much) and extremely professional and will work wonders on the dance floor, but to me the gap between them and the Freq track is too wide.

In other words, I hope some of these progressive masters like Sascha, Buzz, Haldolium, Ticon et al could branch out and use their broad technical and musical skills to make some more serious music that is less linear, more complex, but equally functional on the dance floor.

10/10 for the Freq track!
7/10 for the rest. (other highlights for me are Lube and Vision and Canedy)

p.s. Look out for more Freq tracks soon on Interzone and Iboga. I think there's an Interzone 12", tracks on two new Iboga/Iboga Japan compilations, and then an Iboga album next spring. The scary thing is that he's produced several ALBUMS worth of new tracks this past year that are of the same quality as "Short Life Again". This guy is a machine--the future sound of trance!

ummm , except for the tracks he released on Exotic Native and Plusquam I couldn't find any other release by Aran F Gallagher . come on Russ , where are those sources or do we really have to wait till spring next year.

btw, another wicked low bpm track I noticed lately was the sphongle rmx by Prometheus ... pretty nice imo , smooth psychedelic and most important ... non agressive

oh yeah , also the Alfa Aroma album by XV Kilist sounds promising ... groovy organic trance , fresh and very addictive

sorry jyotea, you have to be patient! Emok is the only one with all the tracks, so unless you steal his bag you are out of luck. but the compilation tracks/singles will be out before the album. the album is supposed to be out in March/May.

Ok, finally heard it.

Like always from Plusquam it's a good mixture of progressive house and trance. Groovy, deep and very enjoyable.

I agree with some of the first comments here - THE hightlight is the track by FREq. For me one of the hottest acts on the scene at the moment, and I've only heard 3 tracks

Also worth mentioning is the tracks by Lube, Vision & Canedy, Phony Orphants and Buzz & Fabio.

Biggest disappointment must be Ticon and Haldolium. Ticon with a very standard track, that sounds like something they've made a dozen of times before, and Haldolium with some horrible singing. There where some awesome vocals on the album from Marios sideproject Emou, but since then it's been downhill.

Bottom line, this is another good compilation from Plusquam. In my opinion you shouldn't expect something really groundbreaking, but "just" a lot of high quality progressive trance - great for both the dancefloor and a monday evenin' on the couch.

Verdict: 8/10 - recommended.
