and this... my first review in ages... had to write on this one, not to miss!

V/A Lotus Seed [Dharmaharmony 2008]

1) Electrypnose - Bakund

2) Z-Cat - Nice Connection

3) Ocelot - Slob Tshan Gchig

4) Dragon - Gravitron

5) Shapestatic and Elis_Dee - 9teen90nine

6) Parus - 5-VEK

7) Pondscum - Gumboot

8) Mubali - Stranded in Candyland

9) Ghreg On Earth - Solstinox

As the lotus unfolds, like our future, the possibilities are endless. This is a compilation grown from years of underground connections, striving towards a global community. Lotus Seed gives us a glimpse into the magical worlds of sound being created by artists in the US and beyond, all connected by a single purpose, to create mind-bending dancefloor blasting sounds to keep us moving and amazed.

1) Electrypnose - Bakund
Vince likes to start off compilations, and normally he does so in a way that makes the other artists sound better, as his productions are off the hook and always growing. This one in particular piques my interest since it is a bit slower and brings a relaxed vibration. A warm chimey story is created which leads into a pulsing and epic tale, showcasing the advanced productions of Electrypnose. Thick with tension and emotion, A ripe for the picking twilight/morning tune to keep hands in the air! Nothing less than the best from our friend in Switzerland!

2) Z-Cat - Nice Connection
Z-cat, a female artist from Russia, shows us how to shift into overdrive, with a fresh and kicking squidgy tune full of quirks. She is a new artist to me, and i am very interested by the raw style she uses, which incorporates some of her own amazing vocal skills thru the motherboard meltdown to keep the girls on the dancefloor, very important Great introduction to her sound! A freestyle rolling night tune to keep the floor flattened for sure. Apparently she has had her voice featured on tracks we have heard in years past from G-Light,

3) Ocelot - Slob Tshan Gchig
Ocelot is likely one of the top several of the truly psychedelic and stylistic ranging psytrance producers as far as his release list shows. This track reminds me of the massive track released on ALIEN FM 2, "Whirligig" but this is barely one notch down from that, somewhat more accessable, playable to help the party blow up instead of fueling the meltdown. One thing i always like about Ocelot is that his personal edge is always apparent, showcasing his production skill but never losing the sense of humour and exploratory nature of the soul of the artist. His tracks are beyond words, so many details flying past, you are transported... up and away!

4) Dragon - Gravitron
Dragon has been the keystone of psytrance in the deep south for years. One of the primary voices and leaders of the pack down there, hes been putting so much energy into his production, you can feel it. Last time i heard him play he was sending out some sonar scan frequency, bouncing off the people, the earth, and it was all in slow motion...he blew the place to atoms and reassembled it. Like a fractalizing music box wound too tight, unwinding gracefully. This track has that feeling, a pulsing wave washing over you, lots of layers of sounds, none too overbearing, a well assembled and fine-tuned machine.

5) Shapestatic and Elis_Dee - 9teen90nine
The duo of Shapestatic has shown their trademark style over many well received livesets across North America and through thier debut release, "Metaphim" on Gaian Mind Records-- A release that covers the history of Goa and the future of music, a timestamp on the potential of the genre. This remix finds them working with longtime TOUCH Samadhi DJ Psyonic aka Elis_Dee, a character in the southeastern underground with a production style all his own. Thier style has been twisted around and has a boiling, melting quality through the middle, and yet still retains the level of space that we have come to expect from them. Always keeping our minds fully engaged, hairs on end, and feet moving!

6) Parus - 5-VEK
The Brothers Parus have had some seriously deep tracks released, and Ive been enjoying the progress. This track follows suit with some of the favorites on Auraquake; a deeper, more spacious tune. Percolating sounds populate the soundspace, the driving bassline and clockwork sounds make it a churning, mysterious and swampy puzzle. As it is being solved , you notice the frequencies begin to rise, then later, mutate and distort reality, sending the listener through a sonic wringer, showing the depth and character of the artists. keeps the flowing going fo sho...

7) Pondscum - Gumboot
deep in the murky swamp we go! as i had hoped for this first pondscum release in many moons. Again we see that down under the laboratory of the scum dude has been mutating and lumping along for a nice go. a nice goo even. proper stompytime gated acid tales with nice delays unfolding as youre bugging out and checking your pockets, feeling wobbly, and letting the grooves move you. He has stayed true to his style and thats so valuable these days. Nice and reliable solid track!

8) Mubali - Stranded in Candyland
Mubali has fully established himself and his maniac style across the planet. His album release and subsequent tsunami of singles has proven that he is a man with a message. That message is mastery and playfulness manifested in swiftly moving bass, percolating, full spectrum sounds. Another winner from our man Mubali!

9) Ghreg On Earth - Solstinox
GoE has been melting minds for years, a slowly evolving and ever intensifying project that always shows us the horizon of the mind. With worldwide touring and many many releases, he has built a masive pyramid of work. This being one of the outside, higher level bricks. Like a wicked automated machine, his music delivers futuristic messages, showing us the reaches of the mind. im feeling a bit like going outside now! these sounds, and all the others here beg to be played loud under our star, or all the others, depending on what time of day!

at the end of it i have faith. knowing a lot of the artists personally i have a great feeling about the accomplishment, im sure you all understand. Thats what being part of the community is all about, to be recognized and understood, accepted and inspired. What we see when we examine the idea of community, is support, building a foundation on which to dance, grow and experience our lives. and that just begs for the future, and this music is echoing backwards from our futures to tell us: KEEP DANCING!

nice release. i enjoyed, the electrypnose, z-cat, pondscum, mubali and g.o.e. tunes. really like the percussion on the gow and z-cat tunes. the ocelot track is really something, its always wonderful to see what he is cooking up. hear this track and then hear his passed few releases on avatar recds and vertigo and you'll see what im hinting at. another act that inspires similar thoughts is Electrypnose. all the best to dharmaharmony and all involved.           www.soundcloud.com/ishikawa

a nice release, enjoyed electrypnose, ocelot, parus, pondscum and ghreg...

the thing i really dont like is that pondscum which is 142 bpm is after parus which is 148...ruins the flow of the compilation and makes pondscum sound really slow and almost unbearable to listen the 1st time u hear it.

after a few low/average releases electrypnose came throo with a great track...more like this Vince

Luke is best!

No maffer about speed, idea is most important. But something close to funky's point of view i was feel too. But it is only one drop in big universe of exelent soundings in this va!
keep up the good work!

Pondscum was the highlight for me, such an intense bassline. Parus & Electrypnose were good too, but basically I bought this for Pondscum - he can do no wrong at the moment.

superb release!

1) Electrypnose delivers yet another melodic anthem.

2) is one of the best theme based tracks in a while... very catty.

3) Ocelot refines one of his best ideas with Slob Tshan Gchig

4) Dragon's Gravitron plays with the territory between the implosive and explosive. A lightyear jump between this one and the last Dragon track I remember.

5) Shapestatic and Elis-Dee ... THE dancefloor favourite! This has been the general highlight for most people who've heard this CD.

6) Parus... one of my current favorite artists. Each track is a masterpiece and this one is no exception... just waiting for the album now.

7) Pondscum... been eons since we heard something from this guy. The track's perfection is it's simplicity. Extremely psychedelic work without overdoing any layers.

8) Mubali proves once again why he is the undisputed bassmaster. Grooviest track of the lot.

9) Solstinox ... for those who travel psytrance with their minds GoE is the ultimate tourguide. This track is yet another epic in his future sound explorations.

Great release from Dharmaharmony and very well compiled by Dragon. The CD plays super smooth from start to finish. Highly recommended! Big thankyou to Electrypnose for the hookup!
