long info:
The influence of International Deejay Gigolos can hardly be overestimated. Early Gigolo releases from artists such as MISS KITTIN & THE HACKER or CHRISTOPHER JUST were a turning point in the musical tastes of so many; winning over many new listeners to the electro sound. Having recently passed the 200 releases milestone, in 2007 Gigolo celebrates 10 years on the edge of the ever expanding horizon that is electronic music and digital culture. Where would the world of electronic music be without International Deejay Gigolo Records? Fact is the musical landscape would look very different than it does today. Much imitated, never equalled - Gigolo has paved the way for hundreds of labels and artists and earned countless copycats along the way. But the Gigolo concept, just like its visionary DJ HELL, is a true original. CD TEN sees the dawning of a new chapter in a label that has made musical history. Through flirts with the mainstream and a run in with the sterile business of majors, Gigolo has always remained underground in spirit. The labels ethos is about being true to yourself and following your dreams no matter what others around you might think. It’s this brave defiance of trends that has made Gigolo what it is. Ever supportive of new talent, CD TEN introduces 11 brand new Gigolos hand picked by the label’s A+R mastermind DJ HELL who despite his incessant “non-stop world tour” and gruelling gig schedule always finds time to source great new artists before anyone else has heard of them. So people like Belgian boy ARBOTIQUE, Berlin’s WOODY - who’s brilliant full length album is also coming on Gigolo this year, the new act from Bielefeld EVOL, and Latvian IGORS VOROBJOVS all make their entrance on the Gigolo stage with tracks on this compilation. Get Physical DJ duo VOLTIQUE from Stuttgart have also been recruited especially for the CD TEN, as has FELIZOL which is the music project of Greek film director YIANNIS VESLEMES. All these people represent the new generation of Gigolo. Of course, they are following in some big footsteps but with the HELL seal of approval, these bright new talents are sure to go far. Cologne based DJ REBECCA VON KALINOWSKY hits the Gigolo scene with a powerful track Dance, which is exactly what you will want to do when you hear it. Romanian Gigolo THE MODEL’s track is another real body mover which originally came out as 12” as did HERMAN SCHWARTZ’ Replicants Suffering – a must for sci-fi film fans: it’s a modern version of VANGELIS’ Bladrunner theme. This healthy batch of fresh new acts is counterbalanced with big Gigolo names like MOUNT SIMS who has contributed a brilliant new track Nailed to the wall, which is really one of his best works. And the Gigolo boss HELL himself delivers an outstanding tune with his, Is Hell The One And Only Dominator?, remix of dutch crew HUMAN RESOURCE’s ’91 hardcore classic Dominator. It’s worth the price of the double CD for this track alone! HELL’s remix of Dominator is also just out as a 12”-single (Gigolo 201), but this is the first time on CD. The Gigolo specific post-minimal sound is represented by Manchester’s Mikrowave label owner KEVIN GORMAN, hot new Swedish producer DIBABA (from whom a long player is expected in 2007) and the man from Bremen OLIVER HUNTEMANN who also runs his own Confused records and whose album Fieber came out last year to critical acclaim. Our kid GORMAN is also responsible for a kicking new mix of another old R&S track, OUTLANDER’s THE VAMP and a full length album by him is also planned for release on Gigolo. And there are special guest appearances aplenty in the shape of INGE NEUSS which is a new side project by renowned Hamburg duo MOONBOOTICA. Also JAMIE ANDERSON & JESSE ROSE with a body jackin’ version of STEVE “SILK” HURLEY’s legendary hit Jack Your Body. Body jackin’ as their 12” version is called, could easily be the best single Gigolo has ever put out (Gigolo207). Plus there’s a healthy portion of Gigolo old-school from the likes of FOREMOST POETS who’s Reasons To Be Dismal? was already released on Gigolo in 12” format and now comes in a brand new mix, or LADY B who already featured on Gigolos CD Six (Gigolo 90) and is again included on the compilation with a fresh tune. For a label like Gigolo Records which practically wrote the book of Electro you might think that it would be hard to stay relevant in a fast changing scene. Yet somehow HELL always manages to turn up the hottest new acts. CD TEN is as eclectic and international as you could hope it to be. This double CD takes in 20 previously unreleased tracks and an almost impossibly diverse mix of styles ranging from Australian duo THE PRESETS’ disco-punk to the Detroit style minimalism of THE ACTIVATOR. There really is something for everybody on this compilation; CD10 is basically an all-you-can eat feast of the very finest in electronic music. This wide scope has won the hearts and minds of music fans around the world and makes CD TEN another winner from the Gigolo stable. To promote the compilation there will be an extensive tour so that people around the world can join in celebrating 10 years of night time is the right time. So it’s time to welcome a new generation of Gigolo artists and enjoy the beginning of a new decade in prime electronic music!
