Compilation: Hammering The Gates Of Soul

Label: Inpsyde Media

Year: 2005

Format: CD

Web: http://www.inpsyde-media.com

Label Info:
Inpsyde was founded on 2001 with the intention of releasing only the most interesting and 'quality' artists of this time. Inpsyde is born as a platform to offer new music to the trance generation, bending and expanding the parameters of psychedelic trance from its present state.

Songs:

01. Terminator - KFSBK On Submarine (148 BPM's)
02. Seroxat - Communication Breakdown RMX (146 BPM's)
03. Equilibrium - Ex-Er-Sis (147)
04. N3XU5 Vs. Darkpsy - No Network (147 BPM's)
05. M.W.S. - In Malo Veritas (145)
06. Freaking - Depravation Chambers (144 BPM's)
07. Big Noise - Power Ride (148 BPM's)
08. Cyberplanet - Wasabi (148 BPM's)
09. Exited - Lirik On Outer Space (146 BPM's)
10. Derango - Boomorgon Remix (150 BPM's)

A great assortment of ingenious acts on the bleeding edge of musical coherence with mere cacophony.

My Highlights :

* Terminator – KFSBK on Submarine

It did not take the whole track to terminate me, but it came close. The kick on the song comes with the typical hard-core timbre with a tail of 148 BPM's. It feels like a human heart drifting back and forth. If you ask me, is too much over 8 minutes, where is a break when you need one? Everything seems fine except, the quasi-Michael Jackson sample woo-hoo-ing now and again. There is a love-hate relationship with me. Might be a deadly song if you don’t know what you are getting yourself into.

* Freaking – Depravation Chamber

The new Russian full-on managess to build another layer on top of the incessant drum work, floating above at a different rate, from the banging with pure psychedelic ear candy. Freaking displays enjoyable and quirky samples with traces of progressive, on top a kick and bass that you know are just full on. Complex music designed to be heard from the other side of... the pond.

* Cyberplanet – Wasabi

Funky sound on with a standard bass line and congas echoing on the kick, along synth lines reminiscent of an electricity discharge. There is this magical melody somewhere by the end I can only associate with some sort of wooden xylophone, of probable Asian descent. Interesting syncopated break by the middle picking up the pace by the end; after all Wasabi does stop stinging for a minute or after you tasted it long enough. The green spread only gets spicier as the timeline runs its course.

* Derango - Boomorgon Remix

Jens Eriksson and Ola Eriksson’s sound remains eerie and twisted, but never dispersed nor spotty. The synth effects are original, there is still a melody there somewhere and the tweaking of the voice samples are a delight. It’s the Örebro sound we have come to expect.

Title: Hammering The Gates Of Soul
Label: Inpsyde Media
Cat#: IME008
Cover: http://217.160.138.169/pic_b/ime1cd008_b.jpg
Released: May, 2005

This review is originally posted in swedish at Mandarin.nu.

Inpsyde Media is back with a new dose of nightmusic who offers deliveries from Sweden, Portugal, Austria, Israel and six(!) pieces from Russia. The release is compiled by Inpsyde Media together with Dj Natan, who is one of Austria's top dj's. The piece comes with a first class cover and is really one of the better covers I've seen in a very long time. The question though is if the bizarre cover reflects the ingredients well who is represented on the release?

Stash up with antinauseapills and invite your closest friends for a gathering around the speakers - a wicked mental journey is coming up and some travelcompany might be appreciated.

01 – Terminator – Kfsbk On Submarine (07:30)
Ever since Parasense split up, Zolod has been inviting people to dance under various alias, but Terminator is most likely the brainchild of Zolod who gets my thoughts to score the highest dubbelflips. The disc's first track offers aggressive full on madness from the beginning to the end, and it's all delivered in a pure russian style served on an industrial plate of heavy leads and dark pads. This is probably one of the better tracks from the swamp of nightmusic I've heard in a very long time - scream and implode!

02 – Seroxat – Communication Breakdown (Remix) (06:50)
After a real dancelession in the direction of Terminator, it's time for Ofer Maoz from Israel to try to seduce our ears. The track generally sounds typhically israeli style with screaming buildup's and at times too much predictable elements to make a seduction of me possible. All though the track has a real peak at about five minutes into the track, and it offers a real groovy vibe.

03 – Equilibrium – Ex-Er-Sis (06:26)
The track's third ingredience is a brand of Russia, and it is an ingredience who's quite not as aggressive as the disc's two previous tracks. It's enriched by small details instead and at times very psychedelic, and it's quite a game of pan's for the ear to take part in. Every now and then it turns into more atmospherical excursions who I find very appealing, and this track creates a nice element on the disc's total journey - not that mean and difficult to digest but more of a chance to melt all impressions.

04 – N3xu5 vs. Darkpsy – No Network (08:18)
The third earcandy is delivered from Portugal, and this track is not a product I connect well with. It's filled with some squeeks and twists who might please anyone who's into such kind of elements, but I get the feeling that this is something we've heard before. A voice sample who repeats itself at times lowers by ears will to dance, but to my solace the last ride of the track at about seven minutes past gives an ok klimax.

05 – M.W.S – In Malo Veritas (07:38)
Powerful leads and demonic choirs is some of the elements who are woven in to this powerpackage who comes with an austrian signature. In nearly eight minutes we're being feeded with some really groovy vibrations it's full madness all the way to the end. There's no room here for any pause to pee or any pause to breath before this journey ends, and this dancefloorgiant should get any crowd to sweat!

06 – Freaking – Deprevation Chambers (07:15)
Here comes an unexpected dose of morningcharacteristic trance, and at times my thoughts in my mind are travelling towards a braincell stashed with the memory of Cube with Terminator. Of course the compass is stricly locked on Russia and Zolod is involved here as well, and this time with Kristy and Sasha Aizin. This track is extremely nice and beautiful, well equipped with many atmospherical excursions and mystical melodies. This track grows fast on me to quickly become the favorite track so far on the disc together with the disc's opening track.

07 – Big Noise – Power Ride (07:25)
If you can't get enough of the brainchilds of Zolod, here's another russian piece of candy to be discovered, this time in collaboration with R-O-M-Alienetic. This is a track who I experience as a bit laid back after what I've experienced so far on the cd, and it is a nice segment who feels welcome by me. The track is imbued by an atmospherical feeling and it circulates plenty of bassgames during these cosy minutes.

08 – Cyberplanet - Wasabi (06:01)
We continue the morningvibrations with another russian delivery, and we're offered a vernissage of beautiful soundscapes who are filled with atmosphere and a whole drive if beautiful melodies. Some squeeks and twists may be a bit boring as you may experience them as something you've heard before, but it is nothing you take such a big notice about as there is so much else to have a tasty chew on here. As an old Posfordfanatic, I feel that there's some vibrations of that kind in a segment two makes sound at about two minutes past. Incredibly moody atmospheres guides us on the journey, and this is extremely beautiful! Way to go!

09 – Exited – Lirik On Outer Space (08:10)
Once again we're heading for russian trance, and this time in a more easy way to digest. These nine minutes is not especially heavy for the mind, and there is plenty of space for the listener to get lost in his/her thoughts during the influence of this track. It is at times very playful, but I'm still drawing the conclusion here that this track is, even though it is not a bad one, probably one of the less good elements on this compilation.

10 – Derango – Boomorgon (Remix) (07:43)
Our swedish weirdotrance supplies are big, and Derango is always making progress at the front of this kind of trance. Join up with a wicked journey through playful environments who are most defnitely the trippiest part we get to experience on this cd. I think that this track is getting better and better for each time I listen to it, as the level of details are high - but I'm still worried at the end. Ola and Jens: What on earth is going on in your heads?!

Summary
This disc drops down in the mailbox as a sonic bomb who makes no real harm then some damage to the psyche, but instead it grants you an emotional enjoyment who strikes harder. The compilation grows on to you for each listening session and the disc's buildup is perfect. It works to spin in the home to enjoy a rainy day in may, but it also works to get people screaming at the dancefloor as well. I'm gladly surprised! The cd doesn't bang beats of peak from the beginning to the end, but it does breathe great consideration instead who gives a massage to the ears using various techniques.

My favorites on the disc is track one, six and ten and this disc is recommended to anyone who'd like to know what a rainy morning in the russian forest might feel like!

Thanks Inpsyde Media!

Great reviews you two, nicely put! The comparison of the kick with a heart beat in "KFSBK on Submarine" is pretty good, and you exactly pointed out what the track is lacking.

My faves are track 1 and 10. Especially the Derango tune is abolutely awesome. The haunting melody is so... um... haunting
