London label Globetronica’s debut release, "City Hippy," is an interesting mix of highly eclectic urban electronica. Sentimental adult contemporary, lounge downbeats, breathy Top 40 vocals, club massives, Ska one-drop hip-hop, infectious reggae pop, bollywood ballads, illbient, and burlesque exotica all get simmered down into a single funky masala.

The recipe works. "City Hippy" sparkles with good track selection and musical storytelling: it has the watermark of a DJ who has cast his net far wider than most, and has “truly crossed the dance/world divide.” Pathaan navigates with chill fade mixes that bring a sense of triumph as each transition gives birth to something pleasantly unexpected. The overall vibe is infectious, exuberant, and colorful; it uplifts like musical Zoloft with pink frosting and sprinkles on top.

This is a cool album to play at an urban house party or get together. It appeals to a wide range of people by baring its soul - not by selling it. With a mix this diverse you won’t please everyone with every track, but most people will dig most of it. The package includes two CDs: a mixed one, and an unmixed one for Ipod junkies and DJs who want some inspiring selections from left-field that will bring smiles this summer.

Totally agree with Brett on this although I am a raging fan. And did you know this info ? I've pulled from his website :

PATHAAN joins the BBC !!! Pathaan moves into un-chartered territory presenting a weekly show from the hours of MIDNIGHT till 2am on SATURDAY nights; where until now the ASIAN NETWORK switched to the BBC WORLD SERVICE at MIDNIGHT.

Leaving an existing fanbase on Ministry of Sound Radio PATHAAN obviously hopes they will follow and is absolutely delighted to join BBC Asian Network and join an existing great team, to programme a show that’ll push the musical boundaries in the only way he does !!!

“We have Pathaan's Musical Rickshaw taking off every Saturday night from Midnight-2am, on a journey to the Indian Sub-continent, in between and back via Lahore, Istanbul, Ibiza, Marrakech, Paris and many far away hot spots. Pathaan brings the best in Globetronica and Asian Chill, and a background of specialist DJ experience stretching from Talvin Singh's Anokha, through to his acclaimed Sunset and Stoned Asia Music compilation series."
MARK STRIPPEL [Head of Music BBC ASAIN NETWORK]
For more info and to 'Listen Back' check :
www.bbc.co.uk/asiannetwork/pathaansmusicalrickshaw & www.pathaan.com

Check it out people; the 'listen back' option is cool ! Anyone at GLADE; did you see BLUTECH and Pathaan after one another on Sunday ?

Smiles and hugs x

hmm... I'm normally a big fan of Pathaan's stuff but thought this album was quite patchy.. though to be fair the Dreadzone track is great as is the Pink Panther tune....

also a little perplexed as to why there is a mix & non mixed CD - there's hardly any mixing going on at all between tracks...

still thats only my opinion (well actually... everyone else I know who's bought it...) but have a listen yourself and make up your own mind....

Intended to catch Pathaan's set at the Glade - but left the ID Spiral area after Nick Tripswitch and got stuck dancing to James Monro & Ticon for the rest of the afternoon...

Each to their own I suppose !

I think the point of the unmixed cd is just to allow peeps to have the tracks unmixed regardless of how much mixing has gone on as all the tracks in the entirety are special !

As far as 'urgency for bad elaborate money maker cheesy compilations' ; this is not what Pathaan does. No hating please....
