Name: Ahimsa
Type: V/A
Label: Dacru Records / Rudraksh Records
Format: Double CD Jewel Case
Compiled by: Daksinamurti & friends
Release Date: January 2008
Mastering: Artifakt @ Timecode
Artwork: Ramses @ Madhatter.be
Distribution: Wirikuta

Dacru Records and Rudraksh Records join forces to bring you this collection of 20 previously unreleased tracks ranging from morning to night-oriented full on music with a solid emphasis on twilight. The tracks where kindly donated as an act of solidarity by the artists and all the profit of this release will be donated to "Human Rights Watch" in India and to the Gandhian village at Sevapur in Tamil Nadu.
Daksinamurti came up with the idea of this compilation after shocking experiences in Pune / India in March 2007 where all 280 guests of a party where arrested on pure suspicion and were brutally treated by the police.
Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term, meaning non-violence. It is a rule of conduct that forbids the killing or injuring of living beings. It is closely connected with the notion that all kinds of violence entail negative karmic consequences.

Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term meaning non-violence (literally: the avoidance of violence - himsa). It is an important tenet of the religions that originated in ancient India (Hinduism, Buddhism, and particularly Jainism). Ahimsa is a rule of conduct that forbids the killing or injuring of living beings whether human or not. It is closely connected with the notion that all kinds of violence entail negative karmic consequences. (From Wikipedia)

The concept of this CD - Ahimsa; was developed after the horrific incidents which took place in Pune, India earlier this year. I was overwhelmed by the invaluable support and the help we received from our closely knit music community at a time when it was most needed. The primary aim of this CD was to give something back in return to those who were/are unable to help themselves and are victims of daily injustice, violence and corruption. It is also a token of great appreciation and gratitude towards those who stood by us during this troubling phase.

On the night of March 3rd 2007, I was arrested along with around 280 other people in Pune, Maharastra. The police conducted the raid at night and carried out insensitive measures towards participating youngsters who only came to celebrate the Indian festival of colours - Holi in an event that fused religion with au courant electronic dance music. On this seventh occasion, a friend and I came to India as tourists but little did we know that we would only end up being treated as dangerous threats to society.

In this unpropitious event, we were arrested without any concrete evidence but on the lines of pure suspicion and were sent to a jail that had miserable, inhumane living conditions. I witnessed and was also the victim of unnecessary cruelty, brutality and even torture that was carried out by the Pune police. The experience was severely traumatic and nerve-racking due to the pitiful condition of the prison which only made the rut we were undeservingly stuck in seem deeper than it actually was. Feelings of helplessness were inevitable as a tiny ray hope was the only thing that kept us riding.

This nature of the punishment that was meted out to us was a high price to pay for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. This really makes me feel deeply sorry for every participant who came out there to just listen to us perform as disc jockeys. The man who led the police raid - officer V. N. Patil was carelessly hyped by the Indian media which aided him to continually publish his blatant lies under the pretext of "performing his duties." In reality however, the only thing that seemed to be accentuated was Mr. Patil's utter lack of knowledge as he "impressively" paraded his ignorance. The incident also exposed the darker faces of the legal system as well as the true colours of the Pune police that were otherwise hidden by a flowery well-meaningful image put across to the public by deceit. The whole raid was pleasant food for the so called "moral-police" who scarred and affected the lives of several youth due to this corrupt hypocrisy. Little did they know the adverse effects it would have on several innocent people...

The negative view point the common man has of our beloved Psytrance scene as being a purely drug related industry, is making it extremely difficult and even risky for the people who consider this music as their calling, to pursue without hindrance. Many people just like me and you attend these parties just to quench our omnipresent thirst and Love for this music, and as for others it may just be a fun event or a social gathering. However, having this freedom to party cannot be taken as being synonymous with partying safe these days. As time ambles, it seems to be getting only harder for professional organisations to get needed permissions to hold legal parties, thus leading to the cropping up of our so called "counter-culture."

Irresponsible and naive decisions made by organizers like those we encountered in Pune have had startling effects on our day to day lives as we attempt to give this music the life it deserves. With regard to changing the view of the general public it is also essential for us to also change our own behavior with respect to how we deliver and put across our values, ideas and opinions of this alternative, unconventional and underground culture. I will quote Mahatma Gandhi to express my point, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Even though this may sound like a wise man's pipe dream, there is absolutely no harm in trying...

Ahimsa for me is a very important value and a big lesson that I learned after what happened in Pune. It helped me not to look back in too much anger and rage but on the other hand also made me view Ahimsa as a universal value that serves as a grass root with regard to how we ought to deal with mishaps, including the heartbreaking and demoralizing incidents that life throws at us from time to time.

Be the change you want to see in your own reality and continue to live for what you Love.

Thank you for the support.
