I started working on Cubase SX 2 recently
I don't have the perfect knowledge about cutting loops and fixing it on the tempo etc...
But I have drum loops I used in Reason.
I wonder if I can utilise REX loops from .RFL files . I looked for a way to export it as REX from Reason but nada... and I'm afraid that exporting it in wav and then "recycling" it would harm the sound quality.
Useful ideas would be greatly apreciated.

Hi there,
Let me give you the knowledge you need for cutting loops,
it's hard to explain it without pictures but i will try anyway,
You need to cut the loop exactly on the start for example: if you want to cut a drum loop goto wavelab or such count 4 bars of the loop (1 2 3 4)and cut it exactly on the start of the base drum just on the start of the frequency - zoom as much as you can. so let's assume you cut ( 1 the 1st part )
so after you cutted the start now do the end of the loop- let's assume you cut ( 4 is the last part) again zoom as much as you can.
now i hope u understand what i'm talking about - if not post me peronally and i will try to help u more.
after your loop is well cutted you have two options to match your track tempo-
the easier one is via Cubase SX (she has a integrated time stretch feature)
Import the cutted loop you worked on before to an audio track in your sequencer
then right click on it -> audio or process (i'm not sure) and then ->time stretch it - very easy - it's hard writing it all by text so do some practice.
the 2nd option is assuming you already know the tempo of the loop,
find - Prosoniq "Time Factory" open the loop from the file menu, type the original tempo in the BPM textbox and change for the desired tempo in the other textbox, That's it.
One thing i can say as i cannot show you this with pictures,
Practice and Practice.
Good luck, hope i helped |

u can load rex files into rex-capable samplers such as phatmatik pro, intakt or kontakt1.5.
nuendo/cubase also natively support import of .rex files, but sadly not .rx2 files - at least not in nuendo1.6, maybe sx2 improved that.
finally, why import the drums loops at all. use rewire and you can get cubase controlling (syncing) reason, with reason outputs (eg your usual reason rex file player units) appearing in the cubase mixer.

yeah, rewire is the way to go!:)
At least its how i do it if I use a loop.
You can also use something like fruti loops to stretch the loop to the size you want...

You can also use Recycle to change the bpm of a drum loop, to cut parts from it you don't want, change the pitch, etc (basically its a tools that does the manual process that Input described automatically)
Its a really time saving tool...
