You can put a compressor over eg. a pad sound, or a fat, reverby drum loop and feed the sidechain with the kick (or something else doing the same rhythm). This way the kick will 'punch holes' in the pad or loop. Use a long enough release to hear the compressor working, and use a large ratio and fairly low threshold so the compression is very obvious.

Compressing pads sidechained to the kick:
This is used alot in proggy styles, especially prog house. Its ALL OVER the new Antix album, and occurs in many Son Kite and Atmos tracks.
I'm working on a track right now with a friend that's similar to a track on the new Antix album where the 'bassline' is just a low deep pad that pulsates due to sidechaining to kick.
How you set the attack and relase as well of course then will reshape the amplitude envelope to your taste with high ration setting.

Hehe...
What about sidechaining the whole mix with the kick!
e.g. Eric Prydz - Call on me... and all of that other turd house music that sounds exactly the same.
(it may be intentional of course - or just crap limiting)

But what about SC compression and stereo sounds?
When you use SC compression, you send to the group channel only one side (L or R), wright?
So, is there a way to keep it in stereo?
Peace

I hear the opposite
You have to set you release time to 0ms so the comp has enough time to fade out until the next kick.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I know it doesn't sound logical but it sounds good with attack about 10 ms or so.
If any pro is reading it please express your opinion about this statement.
Im talkin here about kick drum compression. |

im not an expert with sidechaining but.. but with the waves comp-sc plugin if you used the L->R sidechaining method you are using mono.
But with the other method... using TC NATIVE BUNDLE sidechainer, that plugin plays both channels, in fact it have vu meters for both channels so i suppose its using stereo to control the TC compression. Try it.
