I use a lot of my own loops in my live set, mainly only use loops for kick, hat-clap-ohat-snare perc meat, ethnic/tribal/single perc, and sweeps/pads. The pads are quick records of Linplug FreeAlpha (so far) for background, and the hats and kick are renoise-rewire-recordings from a rack of renoise files I have as loop machines. The ethnic perc are all from some pub-domain loop site I think, i got em with a TON of other packs so idk which was which. Nice arab-north african stuff that adds more of a tribally feel. Oh yeah some of the loops included in Renoise's file bank.

I find it much easier peronally to hook the renoise perc box to live and record whatever than it has ever been searching pub-domain sites for what I want, and I can have dry sounds or wet like squeegees with weirdity if i want at the click of a checkbox. I dont spend all that much time on the main perc meat, usually just a closed, maybe an open hat, clap, and some other metallic sound (I dig brushes I do).

I dont really have an ethos regarding use of others' loops other than, if its licensed, note the license and creator. I dont use looped stuff in my productions, just the live, and having elements not found in my finished stuff gives it a feel of more-than-usual mudpeople and those arab perc loops are nice.

I like to mess around and make new loops all the time, prune old ones i get tired of, always saving new project files... Its too easy to make all I require myself, and I dont have to accredit the license or anything, and since i use a lot of the same perc elements in my studio work, they all are consistent with my sound.

I also kinda have that renegade tracker sampling everything mentality still (renoise helped) so i have no qualms slicing and dicing others loops. Especially since I know how easy it is making em. When it takes all of 8 bars its hard to feel attachment or possessiveness.

Id gladly share but theyre all Live recording files with default names and im tired. MAybe later.           .

Is it bad to use a ready made synth or a assembled guitar you bought in a music store?

As long as you do something unique and different with the tools you use.. you will be just that.
We will never invent the source again but we can -and should- reinvent it in different, new ways

All this to avoid getting caught up in a loop

Its a privelege to evolve on our prestine heritage in all aspects of live, bend these precious gifts in you're own immaculate way...

Anything is allowed and all is possible...

Overall I'd say the only thing that matters when it comes to producing is artist intent (as in your intent). As long as you try to fulfill that (and hopefully do fulfill it!), you're golden.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

add a flanger to a preset and WHOA new sound, add a ringmod after taht, AGAIN.....

Its so easy to make recognizable sounds unrecognizable.

I always thought the idea was to dance, and all the rest is colorful pictures to look at, smells to smell and tastes to hear... Do they dance? If yes, good. If no, are you playing dance style or sit style? if playing dance, and no dancing, either use less vocoded Duvdev, more of Dalis magic knob, riffs that Eskimo played live... Or you know actually have things playing.           .

i think there is no right or wrong there, just do what you like and what make your music better but sure making your own loop might lead to really intresting stuff but it need times... from a already made loop it s also easy to make it your own without much work and have great result.

definetly yes if you like why not.Prodigy is great example what one can reach just out of samples. And it is not that eazy it is a knowledge and you got to have a wide mind to style it in to a track like smatch my bitch up.
Personaly when it comes to drums I find it hard, for instance breakbeats.. I love so often good drum and bass loops but find it hard,I prefere to have for each element like closed hi hat or snare an own channel. But this often is not possible since you often hear two or more elements at the same time.Noise gate or strip silence could be a friend to seperate but however I thnk sampling/samples and working with it on a good level is an art on its own.
tbh when it comes to pads leads or sth like this ,I never have wasted the time to hear it to the end. This is personaly for me an absolute no go.But drums, loops maybe orchestral stuff/soundtracks and especially old stuff form vinyls or from old cds this is the shit to sample. Also all kind of percussive one shots.

Think by using (Lets call it in the right name - Others Loops) You kill the all creation and the all fun . You know .. The legoo time is 3-4-5 years old no need to keep and play with later in an older ages . Make your own music , Your own style , Your own sounds , Be yourself

Personally I like to use looped kicks for my live just so i can have all sorts of filter sweeps, breakbeat fill thingys, double-time ending doofdoof, etc, which would be a whole other birds-nest taking time and attention when recorded loops let the robot do it for me, then i can make midi patterns and tweak the bass, and mess with fx           .

i dont see any harm in using readymade loops as long as they fit in. although it might be thought of as not being creative, u can still get creative within the 'art' of using loops. like chopping them up to create your own pattern, some glitchy breaks or drumrolls, stuttering kinda fx with melodic loops etc.-totally manipulating the loop to fit in, like in the video posted by disco hooligans...anyway, one of the biggest problems i face while using loops is any kind of reverb that might have been applied separately. using a noise gate can help in this case. and i also like to use other one shots/stabs to compliment the pattern of the loop. selection of the right sounds is imortant here. u can also choose to select any random loop and build the other sounds around it. using loops for sfx can sound cool if u have some sort of modulation like a haser or vocoder and use automation on paramaters like speed/time or amount. i guess, the optimum usage of loops somehow boils down to mixing skills and the steps that one takes for them to blend in and sound one with the rest of the track. its also a good thing to use loops that math with the tempo and key of the track and vice versa...that will help avoid unwanted artifacts. on the whole, loops are fruitful i love them

Electronic dance music was invented around using loops and samples. Nothing wrong in using loops and samples. And there are many artists out there who have their own unique sound and still use plenty of samples and loops.

What's next? Do not use a synth?          www.beatagency.dk

Right said Fred.
It is techno music we're talking about after all.
