I think people are mixing everything (or i didn't understand) cos one thing is connect 2 computers in a network and this has nothing to do with audio or audio cards.

The thing is how to use other cpu prossecessor to work with your vst or vsti, and this i'm not sure that will work on SX.

But if this is possible then the audio will not have FOR SURE any problems cos what passes throu the net is information not audio.
If someone has already made it try to use 100Mbps cards and a cross cable so this way information runs faster.
And tell us if it's fine or what.

well it is a slightly different approach to the problem, but can't one use midi to accomplish this? :

have cubase running on both machines and make one's midi clock the 'slave', the other one 'master'...

then just output from both machines into your mixing desk.

You could have identical files on both instances of cubase, and just mute some of the VSTs on each (so that they're not running twice).

If this isnt possible then it should be!

I didnt try it though.....

jon,
you are absolutely right, but the discussion was about cubase-cubase communication.
if u use midi and route the whole mix into a real life console, this discussion is irrelevant.
here the people are trying to do everything inside the box.see, they think it gives you more offline control.
it is a matter of taste/skill, of course.

About VST link, I went into it for a while and found out that it's a nice feature but it has it's downfalls and afaic the negative sides are a little stronger than the positive at the mo., the major problem is that the system becomes much more fragile and the flow of the work is damaged.

About the 5.1 / 7.1 issue... for the time being if anyone wants to sponsor me for couple more Geneleks and say a tiny Dynaudio for Center, I go for it... if not - I know couple of crazy dudes from Denmark that do it for a while now... their name is KoxBox..           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Yo Bilbo,

No loss of bit resolution tho... ofcourse it depends on how you work... but if you have 2 channels of midi between your cards you can use say the SPDIF for midi ( the whole channel ) cuz basically you will b forced to do this step if you deal with large numbers of midid channels i.e lots of data.. and the ADAT/litepipe channels to recording the actual waves, then there is ofcourse no bit resolution loss whatsoever..
