Hey folks, i have started working on mastering and mixing tecniques, and i just stumbled over this video of a guy connecting a paralell compressor on the whole song.

Video:

is this something i should do? i just tried it to see, and my mix got really dynamic and punchy compared to not adding one. But my kick and bass started making distorted noise sounds so.
I decided to also ask for advise on how to get rid of it?            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

whate ever sound good man but be sure to a/b with the unprocessed signal at same loudness to really hear whats going on.(in many case it s easy to get fooled with louder signal sounding better to our ears )

Yeah, been there, Made a bassline with the ES1
And when i was gonna compress it, it also of'c got louder since i boosted the lows as well with a fat EQ, and it sounded nice untill i realized it was like.. 20db haha            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe
