does it make more sense to work with a sampler for your kick and percussions? i have a feeling that yes... ive not been up to now and i think it has been making my work twice as hard...
i just thought about some things that would be solved so easily with everything being drawn out on midi (at least as the first stage) stuff like hi hats on the kik can just be duplicated kik tracks.... much much more.... does anyone have actually an advantage to using wav samples as audio Vs using a sampler? are there any clear benefits?

good question...
the only advantage i can think of is that the sampler will have its onboard functions which can be directly applied to the sound...a good sampler will give you envelope options for filter and amplifier, cutoff frequency, resonance...and envelope triggering controllable by velocity etc..many such options which would otherwise require many plugins or a lot of manual work on an audio file!
so basically, i feel ur right....using a sampler would be a better option as long as you know ur kick is right!

i use to creat som bank to exs24 sampler, stuff like hihats & snare. the only advantage i see its more easy to create your loops in midi and continiu with the track, but at some point i usualy convert them to wav for eq and mix cause when things are in midi than the result is not the same in sound quality. its worth..
For the kick i dont put it in any sampler.
usually i usr the kick without anything besides an eq to feet the kick to the bass.
yhep.. other thing is that using a sampler u can adjust the original file and tune it to feet the track..
battery and kuntakt stylus, etc, works like rythmic samplers so its the same principle. but at the end you pass everything to wav (its my advice)

Welcome to the world of samplers
I would never work with raw waves for percussion... all small bitz on bitz... sampler is made for these things - of course that's my point of view.
I know others who like the wave manipulation work ;/

I use sampler most of the time, also for kicks and sometimes for bass.
If u use a sampler for percussion and u r not statisfied with one perc element u can easily try another perc instrument by loading another wav to the sampler. And u can do lot of tweaking/automation easily with the wide functions of samplers.

Yeah, I am a sampler guy too... I do like the onboard features that the samplers have and it makes it very easy for me to do any automation usually without having to use too many more plugins... I also am a real firm believer that if you wanna change something, it's easier to use a sampler for that... Lets say that you found a better kick drum to use for your song, it would royally suck to have to change every last instance of your kick in audio. With a sampler however, the steps to change it would be a lot easier.
For me converting anything to audio is a show of commitment to what you sequenced. I usually prefer to work mainly in midi and once I run out of processing power, start converting the main parts to audio.

i have started to make a new track only with wave on adio track ... all percursion is made on the audio track channel ... i can say that i see ther a difference .., in quality i chek there more dynamic for sure , its more hard at the beggining when we are not usend to make the work like that , but after some hours eheh u will like the results ,
samplers are good , but they are always loss of info because of the code used to run sampler andf the sample , even if its a minority , but its a difference
for does who dont work like that , try it , more harded but it worth for sure , in portugal major artist i know are starting to work like that , suria , nexus ,, etc .. IT really WORTH ..

hail akai... sorry
i learned sampling from a hip-hop producer, so i love samplers... U can make drumkits who are perfectly configured with them and you just have to load the program to have your settings again... U can use it as a synth with wavs as oscillators (at least, my akai S3000XL can do that), because it has all the filters/lfos/envelopes u need to make a synth, it just doesn't have oscillators... And you can make an instrument out of a couple of samples... I love samplers |
