Use of exiters

Hi. I would like to know when and how do you use exiters and which ones do u use. I have tryed the one in Camel Space and the Starplugs one, i recently began using them on group percs channel so get them brighter. What else can the do? |

u enhance highs or lows with em, i use a vst based off a hardware piece i cant recall its name now but it has only like 3 knobs and believed it started with the letter D sorry i'll chek when i get the chance,,,,
do be careful not to use exciter alot and if you do not twice in a mix my best advice it can turn ya mix harshhhhh peace mate |

I usually use exciters when I'm feeling lazy and I've fucked something up. Not the way to go in my opinion.
Generally I don't use them as I try not to use processing to enhance a sound to something it never was. Maybe using them gently I suppose but I'd much rather get it right or just use gentle filtering and EQ to push something up to the highs or down below.
