this headphone method with 2 different sin. won't work within a mix, and especially not on a wide dancefloor
but this (at least this headphone method) is about low frequencies which sg. similar to psychoacoustics' phantom fundamentals and that is a general thing in psy i think even if U do not know about that
anyway, kindzadza truly changes my brainwaves

To answer the original poster, YES, artists are using this technique, especially in chill-out ambient stuff.
Some are keeping it a secret, or just were never asked about it, and I think I heard it clearly in Solar Fields work, and others are doing it openly for the'hemysinc' project. Check Don Peyote's 'Between Worlds' album to enter the trip: http://hemi-sync.com/store/product.php?productid=1660&cat=3&page=1 |

I think it's a nice idea, but in practice it won't work. This entrainment effect is not very strong, and only works under controlled conditions. If you add in a lot of other sounds you will probably lose any entrainment effect, especially if you play it at a party with lots of distraction. Good psychedeclic music by itself is hypnotic enough, there's no need for brainwave mumbo-jumbo that can only be detected by EEG.

and keep in mind its direct effect on brain fuctions is hypothetical (not just according to wikipedia..., and in some semi-science, "buster" TV program it didn't work either they tried different methods)
(i tried it mysel of course with headphobes and 2 sin osc panned to left and right...)
other effects of music are much more significant than this would be directly
not just in psy, in general
if the singing of the birds, or the sound of the ocean makes you relax than your brainwaves go down as well
i think
blabla...

If you're into entraining your brain try dancing in front of a stroboscope while digesting some microdots: wheeheee !

This doesn't sound like something worth doing or listening to anyway..why use it in any music in that case? |

Wikipedia has a 20 minute example ogg file of binaural beats. I put it on my mp3 player and it sounded like staticy and horrible.... sooo..
I ended up making a patch in Max/MSP to make a good sounding one, with adjustable frequencies.
It sounds calming and neat at like 300hz + 310hz.
It's a really simple patch, but get it here

Hey, I wonder if I can use this to anaesthetize myself and replace my expensive ketamine habit.

Most likely... yes. Not that it's just less expencive... what's more important, if your flat catches a fire out of nowhere you'll be able to get up and do something about it
ps: Carbon Based Life Forms also use brainwaves in their music and I've noticed some in Shpongle too. That can be simply from using Spectralive sound banks ('cause they are using it too), but it counts nevertheless
