Hey all,
I'm just starting down the long road of psy production, and i was hoping to get some feedback about USB-MIDI Keyboards.
I'm running Ableton Live 5.2 on my Intel-Macbook Pro, and just got a FAT refund on my taxes. Upon first glances, i'm intrigued by the Novation Remote 25 SL (http://www.novationmusic.com/product.asp?id=30&view=overview&Type=1&bArchive=False)
the Automap Universal mappings are rather appealing, and would be one less thing to confuse me in this process.
Anyway, anybody have experiences with this, or any other usb-midi keyboard they could pass my way? Any and ALL advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you brothas and sistas!

I think if you can afford it the Novation Remote SL series is definitely one of the, if not the best controllers on the market right now..
The automap function is great and no one else is offering it at the moment..

It only depends on whether you want to perform on your controller. If you dont want to perform then just enter stuff using a mouse.
If you're a noob then buy a cheap and nasty disposable controller to see how it helps your workflow. then if you feel limited decide whether you want synth action or piano action keys. (infected play a lot of stuff on piano action keys) But this depends only on whether you intend to spend time learning how to play decently.
Dont buy a hardware synth until you reckon you are good enough to utilise its potential.
Controllers are cheap. Im using the m-audio keystation pro88 which retails for $400-$500 in America, and Im lanks happy with it. it allows me to study some jazz improvisation and record midi data for tracks. |

Yeah...I'm definately a noob when it comes to this jazz. I have no piano back ground, but saw using a mouse/keyboard as kidna silly. I have a m-audio UC-33...so perhaps i should just use the mouse/keyboard for my MIDI mappings and the UC-33 for knob adjustments, etc for now and see how it goes.
Is there any reason to have a straight usb-keyboard cotroller (no hard synth) if you have no piano background? as before stated...i'm SUPER new to this shit, so PLEASE let me know!
Thanks |

I have the novation sl37 remote and i love it. It's really nice to play (it feels quite expensive) easy to use and fantastic with my native inst synths.
The only down side is the pitch/mod wheel which doesn't feel too good for some reason but the pros far outway the cons...
A must for control freaks i'd say... |
