Anyone have a suggestion for a good USB2 card that will live upto PCI standards? I need good honest opinions. I don't plan on being a mobile act, but I'll keep my options open. This is mainly for home studio use.

For the last 3 years i use the Tascam US-122. It is USB and im extremely happy with it. A few months before i built a desktop pc(was working on a laptop) and the only thing i didn't buy was the sound card. From laptop to desktop it performs the same.

I also suggest it to some friends of mine, and they are also very happy with it.

Installation in zero time, very stable, no latency, very good recording quality, midi of course and these days its price is for laughing(considering what it offers).

I will change it only when i'll need more inputs and outputs. Until then no way.......           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

Any reason in particular why you want to go for a USB card? Limits your options to a certain extent..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Personally for a laptop I would use a pcmcia based card myself. RME has these available for a number of their cards (the multiface and I believe the digiface as well). I've been using an E-Mu 1616m on one of my laptops the last couple months and I'm pretty happy with it. The mixer takes a bit to time to figure out, but once that is done its been quite excellent and I have my desktop computer and the laptop linked using Cubase's system link plus 8 digital ADAT channels running between the two computers as well and it all works pretty smoothly.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity
