Is the main usage of a studio quality sound card is to produce the sounds ,process them, or recording them at high qualities?
Can a sound card replace the mixing console? |

In general, quality sound cards are used to record the sounds from your synths, mics, etc to your computer at high quality (24bit/96khz sometimes more) and then to process them again at high quality.
Some of the sound cards have a breakout box with multiple inputs and outputs. This can partially replace a mixing console, since it can record on several channels. But it does not have all of the other featurs of mixing consoles such as eq, effects and all that stuff.
Some of the sound card (pulsar, electra) can also generate sounds using an on-board synth or sampler. I think that Guy and Boris can help you more on this issue. |

A lot of studios i saw were using both a mixing console and a sound card, Why is that?! :)
is there an interaction between the sound card and the mixing console?
I mean, why do the mix on the console, and then over do it in the computer?
oh and, thanks for replying! :) |
