further yet, what about judges? How can be a set of neutral judges with no links or bias towards certain scenes or dj's?
I vote for a panel of 3 accomplished international Dj's in various styles...
That way you get 3 headliners and impartial judges

I don´t see the difference between an ableton arrangement and a DJ who makes an hour long mix CD or two for a set (happens often as well). Although I do have to say that simply doing a pre made ableton arrangement is rather lame as there is SO much more potential for a live performance than most people realize, and one is mistaken to assume that is all Ableton is good for. As a DJ you can rinse out serious mixes using Ableton without ever pre-arranging a single track in your set besides setting 1 cue point. Which you can do with CD decks also.

ok laptop djs can be in the battle royal but lose 10 points off the bat, if they can make up their deficit through track selection, music progression, EQing ect. then they could still technically win... but deserves a * since its like the steroids of djing.
|
|
I'll take your 10 point handicap and still come out in the money.
Oh, and if you wanna do vinyl, we can go there, cuz CD's are cheating anyways.
I only do vinyl or laptops, since CD's are just for people who need to pretend they are using vinyl.

Fluxor would rip everyone. And who ever said beatmathing is nothing special, well that makes no sense to me. If you know how to beatmatch and actually mix and match instead of just flowing into trax, you can do some cool shit.

in order of difficulty IMHO
Vinyl
Cdj (and to you newbies, how bout rocking a set on old school cdj 100/500/700 instead of 1000 or 800 or 200, aint no bpm counters on those)
Laptop
yes a laptop lets you do more things, but there is no difficulty in being able to visually match a wave form pattern and press + or - to line it up
hell it seems more than half of laptop Dj's dont even use or own a pair of headphones. All they need to do is make the pretty pictures match, and visually set a cue point

This seems reasonable. I mixed on vinyl for about 8 or 9 years first. It wasn't easy. And I had two mismatched turntables. One nice new tech. 1200, and one crappy one from the 80's with a TERRIBLE pitch "knob". And is was uphill both ways in the snow.
When I got my digital mixing program, I never lost old habits of DJing vinyl. Always use headphones, never use cue points, and I mix auditorily (the old fashioned way).
All I have to say is a hard drive is so much lighter than a nights worth of records. I was in much better shape in those days.
And brace yourselves.... I've only used CD decks TWICE!! and they were CDJ100's!

GUYS WHO CARES WHATIS HARDER IF YOU LOOK AT IT FROM ARTISTIC POINT OF VIEW THEN YES WE SHOULD ARGUE . EVERYONE KNOWS VINYL IS THE HARDEST TO MIX WITH> MOST PEOPLE IN PSY USE CDJ's ////SO WHOS TO SAY THAT IM BETTER OR YOUR BETTER TILL YOU GUYS START MIXING VYNIL BUT IF U MIX ON CDJ AND KNOW BPM ITS THE SAME AS MIXING ON LAPTOP, EXCEPT YOUR MIXES ON LAPTOP WOULD BE TEN TIMES BETTER BECAUSE THEY MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU TO EXPLORE YOUR MIX. TRY MIXING 4 CDJS LOL YEH RIGHT. anyways most people that come to dance dont even care how your mixing unless people dancing are all djs., as long as people have fun and the transition is smooth i belive thats all that matters. But yes if you look at mixing like turntabalists look at their turntables as instruments then yes u can argue all day but if u not spinning vynil theres not argument because cdjs are digital anyway and u set cues just like on laptop, and loops and effects. if you dont use vynil your not a good dj lol |

man psytrance people are crazy i never seen people argues about music so much. cdjs are ancient use laptops people with traktor u can make 10 diffrent songs from one loop. now thats why they beat cdjs hands down. hook up evolution uc33 and u need nothing else and anyone who says mixing on laptop is bullshit is because people that mix and use the comp alot their mixes will kill your cdj mix anyday. im sorry but u canmt beat me when i make a track from a loop using 4 players at one time and having time to cue loop and set effects at same time while loading atrack take that ancient djs
