Make more music. DJing is overrated.

yes and no. many live PAs are mediocre at best. a lot of the times a good DJ will play a better set than a live PA, and more fitting for the time/place.

but yes, making your own music is more fulfilling and rewarding in the end.

Both have their place. Many producers enjoy doing dj sets for the basic reason that when you Dj you play music from different people, not just yourself, therefore you dont have a set that has one "sound" (unless you are one of those rare producers that has a real diverse range)

with the advent of technology, based on resources available at present, a DJ set could theoretically achieve a level of live creative spontaneity at or above the current standard associated to live set performance. it takes opposite mentality to create a dj set vs. create one's own music. in short, a deductive (top down) vs. inductive (bottom up) mental approach, respectively. thus, it is difficult to compare the two without subjective bias. apples vs oranges. still, there will always be something more special about an artist presenting their own unique creations - whatever they might lack in real time interactivity is more than made up for by all the work they've put in behind the scenes.

There should be a category for comedic effect. I love a DJ who makes me laugh (in a good way)!

Maybe someone should put down a DONK set for the comedy category!

It was likely a stolen track. Either way, that guy just does not get it. ..

I disagree. I play nothing but wav's either purchased or gotten directly from label or producer, however i usually dont give 2 shits as to the track title.(unless its an amazing piece of work, which we all know most aren't) I know who made it, but its usually track number x on cd blah blah blah
and i know i am not alone on this, this is pretty normal S-O-P for most dj's

It might have been so suuuper duper psychedelically secret that they simply would've had to kill you if they told you. So possibly they did you a favor by not spilling the beans.

Secret tracks?! Preposterous!

+1
and yea, a good dj has no need for unreleased killarghs. an old track which has a couple years to marinate can often-times have atleast as much impact as a fresh tune unreleased or not. in the end, what matters more is how a dj can utilize good music and their ability to find it. not as much their ability to obtain and deliver unreleased top secret music which is often poorly mastered and in many cases is unreleased for the wrong reasons. without relying on unreleased tracks, a resourceful dj can easily stay ahead of the curve by collecting released music only, in properly mastered audio format. of course buying music usually more than offsets the normal compensation received for most dj sets, but this is the nature of the business that must be grappled with.
