yes and no. many live PAs are mediocre at best. a lot of the times a good DJ will play a better set than a live PA, and more fitting for the time/place.
but yes, making your own music is more fulfilling and rewarding in the end.

WTF? Might as well make it on hand-cranked turntables with no pitch control. Keep a steady hand!
How about this: the raw mechanics of beatmatching are the least creative aspect of DJing. Why everyone thinks you have to be doing it in a primitive fashion to have any talent is beyond me... it's like those guys who can multiply insanely large numbers in their heads. Alright, that's cool... but most of us are going to use a calculator because simply futzing around with numbers for their own sake isn't hugely useful; it's what you do with those numbers that matters... likewise, the creative aspects of DJing are track selection, effects work, looping, phrasing, and everything else you do with synching tempos.

I agree. If there is gonna be a competition, it should feature some of the best producers and there could be some crazy rules like only certain samples allowed or maybe the artists will be given an assortmant of samples and sounds to see who comes up with the best sets.

Q: How many DJs does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: One DJ to actually screw in the light bulb, and a forum full of DJs to rant about how much better they could do it if only they were up there.

This is prettyy funny, but it actually made me think of something else. I know people bitch about djs bitching about other djs, but when you think about it, this is how almost everyone is in life.
A race car driver watching a race will probably comment on how he could do things better. A baseball player will comment on the faults of players he is watching. Etc, etc. It's human nature to be attuned to these things when you have a lot of experience with them. A lot of this seems egotistical, but the beginning of all this was meant to incite a positive change. Nick and I said some things and in that same frame also pushed the positive change we were trying to instill.
Just sayin....
PS- this thread has been hilarious

| I am agree i have seen this guy doing unbelievable shit include just switching the track from deck A to the next deck B without utilizing those knobs and sliders, forget playing two track on speakers for the whole 5 minutes. I heard he was playing tetris and other game like and hour after his birth hehe. But seriously he was DJing proffessionally since age of 13 besides his game addic and got too mucho experience in other genres in the past such RAP (before it belongs to hiphop, and DnB) which I personally think are some of the hard music to mix.
I am not partying much lately but was decide to go to party to check the DJ by their taste (tracks selection) and love 'em more if they play to the end of the track. But overall I am agree with maximjou or whomever says that they play for the girl, I am with ya'll.
I am from philly and love philly djs and scenes and been around the State scenes for sometimes but if the battle should be held especially in a SKILL term, I will vote for NYC Snipers (too many name to mention) include this moderator whom start the topic.

I had another idea about a producing contest. What if it were a festi for like 4 days and each day was dedicated to a different style thus forcing everyone to make that style of music even if they never have. Like for example how cool would it be to see braincell doing nasty super dark psy or mubali and alien mental doing neo goa. I think that would be cool as fuck.

@those people:
I do. I just wave my hand across the crowd and say " you will dance now" -
I like the light bulb joke that shit was funny! Nice one! And I tend to agree with Mubali. Who gives a fuck who's the best. We all know I am.HA HA!!! no seriously... I understand and agree that discussions like this provoke people to do better. If that wasn't your goal in the first place then your like the guy someone talked about a few threads ago who just got on the line up because he was someones friend and don't really care about the crowd and job you have to do and only care about looking cool on the stage (why people think we look cool I don't know) Its like watching a bus driver drive a bus.
YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST that's why they pay us the small bucks! wait do they actually pay... another topic...
REAL TALK:
We all know discussion like this never really go anywhere someone says "YEAH lets do a festival in hawaii or wherever and have djs battle and yeah it will be sooo awesome and ....IT NEVER GETS DONE! Who's gonna pay for it? Oh yeah we forgot about that.... shit! Oh well was a good idea though... duuuuuuh
seriously in all the years I've been djing, we are an after thought. The Artist is the focus of most parties in LA at least and I think around the world. I am peace with that why does everyone else feel the need to gain superstar status being a dj??? Its like some people are like,"look at me look at me I can play with a cdj while getting a blow job and doing a line of coke and sucking on a hit of acid! WOW I can play a laptop and make loops and blah blah blah"
Good soldiers go to war to protect the people not to get medals! Now go out there and fight soldiers!!! Those dancefloors need you, UNLCE PSYAM needs YOU!!!!
